Autumn Chill, Longing For Christmas
Coniraya Posted Nov 1, 2003
As it is Guy Fawkes night on the 5th, there are fireworks going up as soon as it is dark until about midnight, so not much chance of seeing the northern lights.

Guy Fawkes isn't a holiday, we actually have less public holidays than the rest of Europe. As it is an outdoor activity and after dark, it often gets rained off. A link if you want to know who Guy Fawkes was:

Hi, Titania! Any chance for northern lights tonight?

According the Swedish newspapers, yes - but according to the Swedish weather... *looks out at an even layer of clouds* ....no...

I think that roughly around midnight local time is the best time for spotting auroras

IIEM, please may I have a hot with marshmallows?
Nasty wet, windy day out, just the sort of day to spend by the fire with a hot drink whilst reading the Sunday papers.

Quite the same here. It hasn't been light enough today to turn off the lights. So I decided to bake something - gives a nice reason to stay at the warm fire.
IIEM, I'll have another cappuccino, please.

The sky was almost clear in the afternoon, but now it as clouded over again - not a chance to see any auroras!
IIEM, a rooibos please

We celebrate the souls' day today. Everybody lights a candle on the windowsill for the souls to find their way home.

We 'celebrated' it on Saturday - only we light candles on the graves instead, and decorate them - in remembrance of those dearly departed
It's a rather solemn occasion - quite opposite to the American way of celebrating Halloween. Personally I think that the Dia de los Muertos in Mexico seems like a perfect combination of the two!
IIEM, a vanilla latte please

Yep, the graves had candles too. I guess there is still more candles on the windows - 2nd of November tends to happen on a very cold and dark time of the year. Methinks November is the worst month at all.
Exept that it has a lot of birthdays. Today my sister-in-law and her twin sons have birthday.
