Evadne Cake and I have, in a not very democratic manner, decided that we will be meeting at Margate Station at 11.30 on Friday 6th. This should give us plenty of time to get to the festival while taking in the sights of the Clock Tower and the newly be-spangled pier.

New Pier?
You mean they've fixed it?
After the Royal Engineers had four attempts at blowing it up and only succeeding in blowing out peoples' windows on Fort Hill?
I don't believe it...
I was there when it got blown away.

Nah, not *that* pier! The normal harbour pier with the droit house on it.
The remains of the *other* pier really should have some sort of award for belligerence, obstinacy and all round stubbornness!

Oh! You mean that sticky outy groiney thing...
I've never understood how they can call it a harbour.
Ramgate has a harbour!
When that pier went, all the deckchairs were trashed to matchwood and were floating in the Lido, which went at the same time... Mega expense.

And here it is in all it's glory!

Yeah, maybe 'harbour' is pushing it a bit: 'garden wall round a soggy sand pit' could be a better description.

But, I've played at the Lido! A few local bands had very, *very* small scale rock festivals there in the early 90s. Small scale as in the clientele of The Ship, and some from The Brittania going to the Lido for an afternoon.

Well, the Brittania crowd could just abseil down the cliff!
I wonder how the Ship survived the Great Storm of '78?
It's a wonder it didn't float away, as the road around the clock tower was under a foot of water that evening.
I agree about the sand-pit bit. Pongs a bit at low tide when the tide's out.

Aha!
I'm glad *someones on topic
Right.. so far 4 out of the 5 of us seem in reasenable accord that Margate Station is a reaseenably sensible place to meet up. I think the thru train from Victoria arrives at Margate around 11.15, on Good Friday if I've read the right line of the time table.
I may not have done, of course. This is a distinct possibility.
2 Legs appears to be missing... as in missing from his landline.
This worries me a little.
I know I visited Cambridge over the weekend..... but I did leave it in much the same condition as I found it. Honest
So its perfectly safe for him to get back there now....
Meeting time.

Going back off topic, this is the newly tarted up pier that bears no relationship whatsoever to that soggy sandpitty place.

Getting back on topic, the random, infrequent, slow train service running on Friday appears to deposit me at Margate at 1148. Can I ask you guys to wait an extra 18 minutes at Margate station?

Ooh, probably. Alternatively, The Flag & Whistle is just opposite the station...
Meeting time.
Moving On Posted Apr 4, 2007
I think we could manage that, somehow
Anyone know if 2 Legs is back from his sojurn yet? He was last muttering about being poorly with slo running trains and Charring Cross instead of Victoria....

I spoke to him last night and it seems he is playing host to a virus which isn't being a very good house guest, so I don't think he's coming.
Meeting time.
Moving On Posted Apr 4, 2007
Oh.
Oh Poot
Poor young Leglet; Thats a nasty virus there, if it prevents the desire to sample real
On the plus side, that *will free up a little more beer for the rest of us....
I suppose we could drink some *for him

He did request we make the effort. We wouldn't want any to go to waste just because Leggsie can't make it. That would just add tragedy upon tragedy.
Meeting time.
Moving On Posted Apr 4, 2007
Waste is a terrible thing...so true
I suppose we'll have to try and be noble and just go the extra few rounds
Its a hard life.
