My, it's quiet in here... anyone fancy a pint?
Number Six Posted Nov 23, 2003
Just a usual post-Saturday night hangover... although I say usual, but having worked many weekend shifts for most of the year it's become quite a pleasant novelty to go out of a Saturday.
Were you thinking celebratory in the sense of us having beaten Hartlepool 2-0, or the Rugby? The best emotion I could find for the Union boys was 'quite pleased' - I mean, I know it's England and it's a World Cup but the Rugby Union-playing classes weren't particularly pleasant to me when I was growing up, so I don't really think of them as *my* team. And it *was* early in the morning. But I did get quite hacked off about us losing the 3rd test of the Rugby League ashes
I'm thinking of writing an entry on Leeds City Market later on today. Have an afternoon planned of taking it nice and easy, but I might be motivated to put fingers to keyboard later on...

Oh, I dunno, I was just fishing to see if there was a reason
I'm miffed about the Rugby XIII too , as well as the fact that we couldn't even beat Wycombe at home and I'm still coming to terms with Wednesday ... still, the WC qualifiers draw is in a fortnight - more trips = more entries

Wycombe are odd like that. The game before Adams took over, they dumped us out of the LDV on penalties after extra time - and we had a strong side out, too.
I'm quite relieved about beating Hartlepool - after scoring all those goals and getting noticed by the media, we'd not won for four games. They're rubbish away from home, and we really needed a game like that to settle ourselves.

*Wanders in. in hand (as usual). Looks around and wonders what a is, where she might find one and whether it's what's needed for a Sunday afternoon snooze.*
Hello there MTFR and Six
Can't say I'm a football watcher, but the Rugby Union yesterday morning had me on the edge of my seat. A rubbish match, but a cliffhanger. And I sooo wanted the Aussies to win
I drowned my sorrows just as effectively as if I'd been celebrating - and am suffering the consequences today...

Hi Frenchbean
I'm going to start working on my Minsk and Kiev entries soon - not sure if I saw enough of Moscow to make an entry - unless we do one entitled Moscow's wildest drinking dens

Hi MTRF
*Scrambles out of the leat armchair having been woken by a garrulous fellow-traveller*
Minsk and Kiev eh? Sounds interesting. I know nothing about either - except Minsk had something to do with the USSR Navy and Kiev is something to do with a quite revolting chicken dish
I'm still hovvering around with the start to a Tonga entry, as well as the history of the Samoas. Also thinking about one on Robert Louis Stevenson.
It's been a busy weekend, so no progress on anything other than sleep for a few days

*Strolls in, looking for company and a after a long day at work*
*Full of excuses about fence-building (not metaphorical, real arm-aching fence-building) and too much work work, for not having completed Tonga yet*
Drinks are on me: I'm sooo slow with this entry and I need you all to stick around to Peer at it when it eventually appears.

I'm just doing a little work on my Aland Islands entry at the moment (wish I knew how to get that little circle above the 'A' without finding it somewhere else to paste - I'd probably need a Nordic keyboard though), although I was planning to go for a really early night's sleep very soon, being somewhat knackered after the weekend.

By the way, can I take you up on your very kind offer of enlisting help on the Aland entry? Some googling has failed to find a definitive answer to Old Hairy's question.
Right, I really am off to bed now...

Hi Six
I've just had time to think about Aland: I've actually printed it off, cos I'll have time to really look at it today. I'll check out the postings too and see if my sister-in-law can help with any of the queeries.
Tonga is on the starting blocks. I worked on it some last night, before it got too late . Hopefully I'll be able to put some time into it later as well.

*Anyone fancy buying me a well-deserved or an ?*

Hello all.
I must admit to not being able to rally much more enthusiasm for the Leeds entry I started a week or so ago. Must have peaked too early! - does anyone have the energy to have a go at it??

Well, I'm doing my best to avoid celebrating New Year's Eve, 'cos I usually encounter the human race at its worst, so I'm taking refuge in here...

Hello Six
I'm doing the same. Can't stand New Year - all that false bonhomie; even worse than Christmas. And having to stay up until midnight just to be excited What a grump I am. Happy though!
Have a ? Some good Laphraoig open here...

Having recently discovered www.bearshare.com, I'm currently downloading a bunch of old Stranglers songs...
Did you notice we have a new member? We need to gather together some advice for him.

Golden Brown, Texture like sun....
Yes, I spotted dizzygillespie sliding into the Geog Soc. He's just posted his entry on Chicago too, which I'll go have a squiz at next. It's on A1923914
How nice to have new members
There have been a few entries that haven't been posted in the Geog Soc recently. I really should be more vigilant, but I rather assume that Gnomon will pick up on that sort of thing!
Actually, there are a remarkable number of people around this evening. h2g2 seems to be a refuge for non-Hogmanay-ers. A place of peace and sanity. And an early night!
(still no takers for the Laphroaig)

I've still got over 6 hours of 2003 over here.
We have a local pub that celebrates Hogmanay so I am familiar with that one, went there for 1999.
I might try a Laphroaig if you tell me what it is, after all I've survived Haggis and Single Sign On
