So did you nap today?
No I had a nap...

smiley - erm sorry was just trying to work out what is best. I think maybe I had a nap...but then you get caught napping...maybe Im too tired to work it out.

'Caught napping' is something altogether different, though.

It's the sort of thing you say to a goalkeeper who lets a goal in because he was distracted by a large haddock flying over the North Stand, or to someone who misses a sale because they were painting their nails, or something like that. smiley - tongueout

A haddock is a fish.
And to have a gander is to have a look at something.

Sorry forgot to add that a haddock is something rather like a cod and is found in the North Atlantic I think.

I am not going to repeat the rhyme I posted on the other thread , but it was the fifth of November smiley - blush.
Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the house of Lords, but was betrayed by somebody of his own group of conspirators, caught and killed.
On the night of November 5th,
throughout Britain,
bonfires are set alight, effigies are burned,
and fireworks are set off.
The people do this to commemorate
their country's
most notorious traitor:
Guy Fawkes

Well done. He was caught sitting in the cellar of the houses of parliament with all his barrels of gunpowder. However, he was caught WELL before parliament was due to meet, therefore it wasnt really as dramatic as people like to think.
He was also not the leader of the plot as many think, he was just the expert in munitions as he had been a soldier.

I am much impressed by your knowledge!

We learned that in school very many years ago, I can even recall the rhyme - it's a bit like with song texts, don't you think ? My first English teacher taught us many songs, it was his way to teach this strange language, I was very lucky I had a teacher like him, although the parents complained that we were 'only singing' - they thought we wouldn't learn anything.

Awww sorry katkodl. Thing is...if I ask questions you know...B'elana will know them too! Never mind smiley - smooch

Let's see if there's something that you will know...

Okay....when does one use "who" and when does one use "whom"? Either of you may be able to do this or not...I find it hard enough myself!

katkodl

smiley - biggrin Thanks, B'Elana!

Whom would you ask to find out about the usage of „whom“ and „who“?
“whom” is 4th case (answer: katkodl smiley - biggrin)

Who asked you about the usage of “whom” and “who”?
“who” is 1st case (answer: Katkat smiley - biggrin)

I know, that's not really an explanation... But actually that's what it's all about: distinguishing between 1st and 4th case. Right?

katkodl smiley - blackcat
