May I nominate "The Guns of Navarone" as one of the worst films ever made. Character development, and realistic plot were never Alistair MacLeans strong suits, and this film failed on all fronts. Come to think of it, a number of films have been made, based on a MacLean story.....and they have all been dreadful.

Hmm during this topic a number of people have made the point of "un-realistic plot". I personally think that one of the reasons one watches cinema is to escape from reality; you should suspend your dis-belief for the duration of the film. That way you will get a much more fufilling experience!

Oh come on, Guns of Navarone escapes censure by reason of having one of the best theme tunes ever.

I don't mind exaggerated plots, FB. I despise *stupid* ones.

Fair one but you know sometimes films with really silly plots can be enjoyable; I like works of art, cinematic master peices ect... But sometimes I like a silly plot, big explosions and a happy ending.

Does that make me shallow?

I've only ever walked out of the cinema on one film in my life - Buffalo 66. (terrible waste of good actors).

Though I have fallen asleep during two films - BlairWitch and Eyes Wide Shut.

While watching Dancer in the Dark I merely wished I had never been born.

Only one film on video ever left partially watched - Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. (even John Hurt couldn't save that one).

Example: The difference between the sequence with Ed Harris in 'The Abyss' freezing his ex wife to stop her drowning (exaggerated on my understanding of the science) and Tom Cruise's ludicrous 'stunt' with the exploding chopper in MI (was it 1 oor 2? No matter really.)

Or the difference between Saffron Burrows not getting electrocuted by her own shark killing trick in Deep Blue Sea (again, just on the right side of exaggerated) and the Messershmitt following Indy through a Swiss mountain tunnel in Lost Crusade...

You see my point?

No it doesn't make you shallow (I *like* Godzilla vs Megalon *and* Deep Blue Sea...*and* Reign of Fire, all three of which have been named in this thread as worst movies ever made.).

Different strokes for different folks...

How about "Ewoks- Battle for Endor"?
Don't know about about you, but any film that has
"Featuring over 100 Special Effects!"
written on the box is kinda grasping at straws.

And about 50 of those effects ain't that special.....smiley - winkeye

Apparently at the Star and Garter Pub in the darkest part (even with the red lights) of Manchester, they showed the Star Was Xmas Special last mounth. A flim so bad George Lucus destoryed almost every copy.

Yes I do see your point blues and it is quite correct.

However (shamefully I suppose smiley - blush) I quite enjoyed both of the over the top sequences when seeing them at the cinema. Though it has to be said "Money Shots" in crap films are not as good at home; therefore do not redeem an otherwise bad movie as much.

A good story can save a film with bad science or bad acting.

The effects and acting saved a terrible story when I was watching the first lord of the rings film.

I was tired when I went to watch AI so I wasnt in the mood to be critical and just my mind bathe in the pretty images.

Nothing can redeem Ghost in my eyes. It has all the raw emotion of a hallmark greeting card message. I would have walked out but I thought it might upset the girlfriend and she was driving me home.smiley - wah

I fell asleep in "Road Kill" and "Panic Room", so I can't really judge how bad they were. However, I think some assumptions can be made...
