Hey, CC! Welcome aboard the starship 'earth' and its guide.

Great first entry! And, may I say, impressive use of GML for a first time post-er.

I certainly understand about the 'Folk' thing. I tend to think of them as Country-Folk, Pop-Folk, and Traditional-Folk. But, that may just be me.

Thanks for contributing! Don't let it be your last.

Hey,

Thanks for the note. I think the distinction in music is increasingly blurred. I don't have a particular favourite area - it's all good (well, I like some better than others, but doesn't everyone). Lightfoot tends to transcend a lot of these barriers - he sings some country (the earlier stuff), mostly folk, has tried his hand at popularising some of his stuff (very produced and with David Foster, a real master at pop production), and gone back to folk.

His songs though seem to work in whatever style you want to sing them. I quite like hearing the different covers that people have done. The dance/rap one was very interesting.

Just a small note of something to add to chief Lightfoot's biography:

And, welcome. Here are some sights which may be of geographical interest:

Okay, I've usurped Peer Review long enough with this. I'll look more closely at your entry in a while.

Personally, I think you should add more details of his life. I don't think the reader who gets to 1964 will be bored with the next forty years. As it is, the entry seems to suddenly stop, leaving the reader hanging. It would be interesting to read more about Lightfoots health challenges, for example.

you say "and recently by a country artist, a dance/pop artist, and a rap artist, to name but a few" but you don't actually name them. I think you should.smiley - smiley

I think you've done a fine job, so far.smiley - ok

Hi,

In light of a couple of comments, I will endeavour to add some more about Gordie's life - including his recent health problems and his recently awarded companion of the order of Canada.

Thanks for the advice and tips so far.

Oh, and I'll dig up those people who recorded his songs recently, but one could do an entire guide entry on people who have covered Gordon Lightfoot songs. I think Early Morning Rain has been recorded by 300 people or something riddiculus like that...

smiley - ok Though this side of the pond I'd say Sundown was probably his best known song.

Great entry.

Thanks for the kind words.

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgeral was certainly the biggest in North America, but you're right, Sundown or maybe If You Could Read My Mind would be the biggest internationally.

Thanks,

CC

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Wildman - I'm not really mad, I've just been in a very bad mood for 40 years!

Hi there! I'm your friendly neighbourhood Sub-editor for what (at the moment) is now 'Gordon Lightfoot - Singer/Songwriter'
If you're wondering why the change of title, it's a hootoo sort of thing smiley - winkeye - another of these things is that we only do internal links to articles that have been edited and entered into the guide, that's why your link for Orillia has had to be removed smiley - wah.

Anyway, enough of this chit-chat - the copy of your entry that I'm working on is at A1148159 , if you could look it over and let me know if you have any drastic complaints smiley - ok

RL is kinda hectic for me at the moment, so I'll probably be doing bits at times over the next few days, but I'll be in touch before I send it back to the Editors for its final polish.

Hi There,

Took a look through. I like the changes - it looks good. I have one change (that I wanted to make before, but only noticed after it was sent for subbing. In footnote 11, include should be includes.

Other than that it looks good. I like the changes to the biography, and adding a link for the SS Edmund Fitzgerald is great too.

I understand about the links to only edited entries - makes sense. I only figured that out later too or I would have removed it.

Thanks,

CC

OK, I've taken care of that change and done a little final polishing. I hope the changes meet with your approval smiley - smiley.

I'll leave it for a couple of days for you to check out and then if you've no major complaints, I'll pass it back to the Editors.
