Emmily ~ Roses are red, Peas are green, My face is a laugh, But yours is a scream Posted Jul 11, 2003
From my vague memory, they were going to walk the sheep from Romford to South Ockendon, see if it was within 6 days sheppard & sheep walk I think the roads and traffic sort of got in the way.
Romford, is 'under' Havering, so it may well have tried the same with Ilford, But I would imagine there was a different reason a market wasn't opened at Ilford.
I think it very likely that this was all a publicity stunt, for some 'free' advertising for Romford market, which maybe needed a boost at the time. I'll say no more until I find out some facts, hopefully tomorrow.

Hi
I live in South Ockendon
Do you mean the market as in the one in Derwent Parade, outside the 'big shops' or 'biggies'?!
historical essex
Emmily ~ Roses are red, Peas are green, My face is a laugh, But yours is a scream Posted Jul 12, 2003
yes Xian, there's only one market in South Ockendon
You can use the computers in the library to keep in touch here,(Until they get 'nicked' again lol) as your loosing your digibox, they're free, what I used to do before I had my own pc.
Loup, I'm finding out more about Romford the market and the sheep on Tuesday, found out some today, not enough.

.
Its only a little market but still very good, love the 50p sweeetie one...jazz drops, snow drops and jelly worm .
I went on h2g2 on the Belus library and the woman kicked me off saying I'm not allowed to use the computer , only for reserch and constructive use I went and sat in the kiddy corner reading a book and she said this is a kids area only. She didn't like it when I said 'Do I look like a teenager'?!

That was unfortunate Xian, loads of poeple use the Belhus's computers for things other than research and constructive use, don't let that put you off try again.
The staff were well aware of what I was using the computer for, I used to use them for LD too, never had any probs.
It may only be a little market, but it brings people in, and helps the trade of local shops.
Loup I'll do a guide entry on South Ockendon market and include the Romford 'issue' in. It won't be an edited one, can add pictures and make it more fun, without the restrictions of an edited entry.

hi sian and emmily i hope you are both keeping well.
i am sorry sian that you have had such a bad experience at belhus library. if you are visiting grays at anytime there's grays library. they even have a section that you do not even have to book. the only restrictions are on saturday where you can use after 11 am. if you do not mind standing there is a cafe on the ground floor entrance and there are 3 pc's.

hi xian... emmily and kat...
xian... i would have thought that with all the entries/info available on h2g2 it could be seen as a good site for research...
emmily... take your time... no problem... i haven't had a chance to update the page yet...
couldn't go to the library yesterday unfortunately... and my funds are too reduced for me to go to the cybercaf for a while.. so it's bound to be a few delays at this end as well...
kat... read the knight/essex entry... will read the other entry later on as well...
talk soon everyone..

I find Grays library the best, don't go down there often cause my only means of getting there is by bus...
Loup
Exactly what I told the staff, but as I was using it to reply to messages and not look at guide enteries apparently I was not allowed to use it
Emmily
For as long as that particular woman is there I'll not go to Belhus libraruy to be spoken to in such a manner, I'll pay the bus fee and go to Grays or Upminster at least I ain't watched like a hawk there.
It's a shame the Thurrock Council ain't spending a bit of money to do up the shops a bit more, would certainly be a benefit. Mind you, with he kids about in that area maybe its not worth it.

it's kat... it's great that some new stuff is being produced about essex from the contributors/members to/of this project...
that reminds me that there is another project where these entries will also find a rightful place.. something that needed some updating anyway... so that might be the right timing it seems... will let you all know once it's been done...

simulpost...
emmily... nothing _even_ loosely related to a market activity?!....
xian... mmmmm the message bit is the tricky one but technically they can't forbid people accessing H2G2 as it's not a chat site...
but yep, taking the bus to gray might be better... or, depending on how much is the bus fare, it might not be more expensive using a cybercaf [£1.50 per hour] and there, nobody cares what you use the PC for...
