OK 2Legs - I've amended your 'status' on the page!
Two things to chew over: does anyone mind if we go for a screening of a 'Blake's 7' episode after we've seen one of 'Hitch-Hiker'? It'd make someone (Granny) very happy.
Also, how's about taking in a film on the giant IMAX screen at the NMPFT? There's one that should be on called 'Bugs' which is of particular interest to Amy the , as it shows life from an insect's perspective! IMAX films tend to be relatively short (under an hour) so our total viewing time would still only be about 2½ hours.

Guess I'll need to find accomidation nearer the time hmm, wonder how long a train journey this would be for me : If it is a long journey, I'd probably be arriving later in the day (in time for the curry and ale basically)

'Tis a long trip, 2legs, and you'll have to change. I think it'll take you about 3 and a half to 4 hours from Cambridge - you'd need to get the Liverpool train to Peterborough, then hop onto one of the GNERs to Leeds or York (York's probably quicker), then a local service to Bradford. If you're coming up from Lowestoft you'd have to add an hour or so to connect into the Liverpool train. Not my area, but I think that's about right, I don't think you can do it with less than 2 changes.
I can suss out the best journeys for you at work, once the Winter timetable is finalised, which'll be a while yet. Give me a virtual kick nearer the time. Going back on a Sunday is likely to take you longer.
Unless you stay in Manchester - it's just an hour or so and no changes from here.

Hmm, Guess if peoples were coming into the Bradford meet on the Saturday from Manchester, I could get train up to Manchester on the Friday, and grab a hotel there, ; perhaps even a MMM for the friday evening, then travel down/over to Bradford on the saturday with people, then back to manchester late saturday, and Oh, that would mean two nights in a hotel not that it matters too much, but the trip to manchester from here on train is over four hours, and nearer five I think, and I' never did it on a Sunday, well, as far as I remember I'll think on it at least there is plenty of time for working out such stuff

The Norwich-Liverpool does go via Sheffield (it reverses there), but there's not a direct connection from there to Bradford - you have to change at Leeds. There's probably not a lot in it. Once the Winter timetable is uploaded I can have a look for the best journeys. I can't remember when the upload date is - I'll check it out tomorrow.

can you put Andy and me down on the attendance list? We'll very probably come I can't see why not, unless something more, well, glamourous turns up

It'd be nice to meet you, magoogy!
Bearing in mind how packed some of the West End pubs get on a Saturday evening, and the fact that we want to be able to talk, I was thinking in terms of either the Old Bank or the Goose, next to Centenary Square. They also have the advantage of being handy for the Interchange, for those who have trains to catch - and the Old Bank has good real ale.
I'd probably go for the Old Bank as first choice, with the Goose as a possible alternative if the OB was overcrowded.

Sorry, J'au-æmne - almost overlooked your posting! It'd be good to see you too - and the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television actually *is* quite glamorous!
Just remind me: what's Andy's h2g2 name?

I gave up drinking alcohol just over a year ago because I was becoming a full-time drunk, and found it rather a boring occupation. However, I often drop into the Sir Titus Salt for a pint of diet coke and a go on the quiz machine after I've been up to the University. I go to the Uni often to use the sports centre and (during term time) to go to theatre group meetings. Actually, the Courtyard bar at the Uni is open to all and is great - cheap drinks and a superb jukebox, plus lots of screens for sports events.
I know the Old Bank from my -swilling days, and have been in recently to watch on the big screen there. I like the view of Centenary Square from the Goose, and it does pints of lime and soda for 50p!

Is it worth us lot on the right side of the Peninnes staying over in some 'cheap' accomodation? there must be a travel inn/lodge or something, I'll check tomorrow at work if anyone's interested

Would meeting at 1pm be OK for everyone? This is how I see the day shaping up:
1pm: Meet at the Queen pub, next to Bradford Interchange railway station.
1:30ish: (When everyone's there) Make short walk to National Museum of Photography, Film & Television. Have a look around the museum.
3pm: Screening of 'Hitch-Hiker' and 'Blake's 7' episodes in the NMPFT's 'TV Heaven' section.
5:30pm: Screening of IMAX film 'Bugs! 3D' (If anyone doesn't fancy this, the rest of the NMPFT will still be open, including its rather nice bar. )
6:30pm: Curry!
7:30ish: Head over to 'Old Bank' pub for and a quiz.
Sounds good to me - does it to you?
Key: Complain about this post
