Having had my conscience pricked (ooer!), I'm stepping up and volunteering to help polish things. Why I think I'd be good at it? Because I've a good grasp of English as she is spoke and I'm a stickler for detail. For instance:

>>Always remember that Gem Polishers should be doing the work because they like too<<

Now, if this were Peer Review, I'd suggest you remove the second 'o' from 'too' and I might even be quite pompous about it. Because it's the UG, on the other hand, I'm going to ask instead whether you intend anything by having 'too' rather than 'to', whether this deviation from standard English is a conscious gesture. Only then, if no convincing reason is forthcoming, will I suggest you remove that second 'o'.

(You put that one there on purpose - right? smiley - tongueout)

That second 'o' is probably MJ's fault. smiley - blush I think he (re?)wrote this page, and I didn't proofread it, because if I read his words for too long, my head starts to hurt.

Er, yeah. No convincing reason. smiley - smiley I'll fix that soon. And now you've thrown me off my game. Here we go...

Hi Trin! smiley - smiley Good to see you here.
So you want to be a polisher? Excellent, I think you'll make a great polisher. Probably. If you've read all the pages (including A4184516, which does tend to scare people off) and you're still here, then you're ready, I reckon smiley - divasmiley - bubbly If you have any questions, please ask me, but otherwise, email me at jodantaylor at gmail dot com so's I can get you an invite to the offsite Yahoo! group (affectionately referred to as the Pig and Slag) and a badge.

Oh, and one last thing. I ask all new recruits to remember this. There are two rules to being a UG volunteer.
1- Don't take yourself too seriously.
2- See number one.

smiley - ok

Mmmm, the entry was written four years ago, submitted to the AWW three months ago, selected for the UG four weeks ago, polished two weeks ago...

Now you might want to tell the author off for not submitting his entry more quickly - but that would be cheeky, and I'm not sure the AWW existed four years ago.

Its progress has been quite quick since it was submitted. As it usually (though not always) is with original UG quality entries.

Volunteers need to know how the site works mr, and for a polisher, attention to detail is an absolute must.

As others are advising you, slow down and get to know the place.

But Neverno only took 1 month to be mined and polished and this one has been for 3 months

Neverno hasn't been mined.

You might be mixing the UnderGuide up with The Post, perhaps?

Listen, we really ought to keep this thread for volunteering.

Hello, Aximili. Thankyou for showing an interest smiley - smiley

I see you've not been around h2g2 all that long (though you certainly seem to be getting on with it more swiftly than many). Are you familiar with the AWW (<./>Writing-Alternative</.&gtsmiley - winkeye? Perhaps head along there and check it out, comment on some Entries, soak up the wondrousness of the 'alternative'. Or the <./>UnderGuide</.> itself for that matter?

I see you're heading into Peer Review for the first time too (best of luck, not that you'll need it, I'm sure). In the same way, you might want to wait and see how that goes before volunteering for anything.

All the volunteer schemes on h2g2 tend to say the same thing and we're no different. Gem Polishers don't *have* to be writers or reviewers (they've got to have the eye of a hawk for a misplaced apostrophe, but that's another matter)... but perhaps get a few more miles under your belt? And then we'd love to hear back from you!

i've had a look round the UG and AWW, but I couln't think of anything to suggest in the AWW, (That's never been my area of expertise) that's why I volunteered for a Polisher. Thanks for the vote of confidence, though.
