"I think the fact that Anhaga is more concerned about the Blair comment about the spying, than the actually spying, to be mildly interesting and not worth writing a long winded quote about"

I've been kind of sidetracked from the political discussions a bit for a while by entry-writing. It's much more peaceful, I find.

I am right with you there, anhaga.

Headline: Dubya is Hitler reincarnated.

"All propaganda must be so popular and on such an intellectual level, that even the most stupid of those towards whom it is directed will understand it. Therefore, the intellectual level of propaganda must be lower the larger the number of people who are to be influenced by it.
Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way around, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise.
The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed, for the vast masses of the nation are in the depths of their hearts more easily deceived than they are consciously and intentionally bad. The primitive simplicity of their minds renders them more easy prey to a big lie than a small one, for they themselves often tell little lies but would be ashamed to tell a big one."
Who said it? Adolph Hitler.
Who lives it? George W Bush.

"We've had a really good year." - George W. Bush, with his wife Laura, while showing the new rug in the Oval Office, December, 2001. (three months after 9/11!)

This just came out in the Economist, on an article on gay marriage.
opening line:
"SO AT last it is official: George Bush is in favour of unequal rights, big-government intrusiveness and federal power rather than devolution to the states"
The economist has supported many of Bush's radical government changes, or at least held back from being a harsh critic, but it appears the gay marriage issue crossed a line with them as well. Some more juicy quotes from the article:
"The weakening of marriage has been heterosexuals' doing, not gays', for it is their infidelity, divorce rates and single-parent families that have wrought social damage. "
"Indeed, in America the constitution expressly bans the involvement of the state in religious matters, so it would be especially outrageous if the constitution were now to be used for religious ends."

Yeah, he's really done it this time. Him and John Ashcroft... sheesh... John Ashcroft believes that morality should be legislated - that the government has allowed immorality to proliferate, and it's the current government's responsibility to bring morality back to the American people. Bush is trying to make the Constitution dictate state's rights, and this is one issue the states shouldn't back down on. Especially when it's inspired by religious closed-mindedness. Bush is also the one responsible for taking money away from parenthood clinics, because they offer abortions.
In essence, we've never really stopped fighting the Civil War. States' rights is still an issue, and it's never been resolved to anyone's satisfaction. I expect both the Republican and the Democratic party to split. I don't see how anyone can believe in Pat Robertson's America and still be sane; I think many of the Republicans feel the same way.

Of course, as a typical politician, when John Ashcroft was in state government he was all for pushing for states rights - getting the federal government out.

A. If Bush suddenly pulls Bin Laden out of his hat just before the election (I know it's been mentioned before), remember this:
'Iranian state radio quoted its reporter as saying the arrest happened a long time ago.
"Osama bin Laden has been arrested a long time ago, but Bush is intending to use it for propaganda manoeuvring in the presidential election," he said. '
