I realise that you may wish to respond to the previous post - in particular the last comment re 9/11.
Do not validate it with a response. The post has been yikes'd and will be modded out. (but it may take a while)

Just can't quit, can you.
And what's your response to the poor American girl who was killed in the Middle East while protesting? Didn't do anybody a lot of good, did it? The bulldozer just kept on bulldozing, and buried her right where she stood. Do you call *that* efficient?

I'm glad to read you say that, vogon pilot, as I was beginning to think (and hating the thought) that i had wasted years of sympathy on a bunch of bigots. And everybody hates to be proved wrong, what?
Note: I am not saying that the Indian tribes should renounce their treaty rights.
I'm currently attempting to come to a more comprehensive view of human history and wondering if a more collaborative and inclusive solution of old and new problems might not be possible.
In any case it seems that stable solutions cannot be reached by driving people into corners, both in the material and ideological sense, because they simply refuse to stay there .

The title says it all... Enough! That poor woman, Rachel Corrie, was truly a martyr, a very brave woman and needs not to be forgotten. (I don't know what the hidden post was about, so I am not answering that.)

"(Taxation without representation!) " and how represented do you feel now? What you've got doesn't look democratic.
"The war with Britain was as much about freedom as the Civil War was about slavery." That's funny because the "war with britain" enabled america to remain socially backward and keep slavery longer.
The disturbing thing about the US is that after ignoring much of the country, the political parties will probably retain much the same levels of support.

That's sadly probably true, Apparition!

Whatever and whoever, throughout history, there have been people prepared to sacrifice their lives for something they believed in - Emily Pankhurst springs to mind.
To pay the ultimate price for your beliefs is to be greatly admired,(whether you believe in the cause or not) as it shows a great strength and courage.
Equally, there are people, with just as much conviction in their beliefs, that choose another way, working to change things from the inside. Sometimes it isnt enough, but the work these people do is not often publicised or heroicised (sp?), nonetheless just as necessary to keep battling against the 'chosen' cause.
