Nose Picking
Rains - Wondering where time's going and why it's in so much of a hurry! Posted May 19, 2003
I remember from my school science classes that your nose hairs are responsible for filtering out various bits of airborne detritus, so you don't inadvertently breathe nasty little bit of stuff in.
Therefore, by extrapolation, bogeys are the accumulation of whatever airborne pollutants are around, with a side helping of nasal mucus. So, if you spend a lot of time working with cars, your bogeys will be a mass of exhaust particles. And so on.
I once did some work in an automobile factory putting bodyshells together and the resultant bogeys were black and very gritty from all the metal dust.....

There was a report in the paper a while back saying that bogeys contain roughly the same chemicals as junk food, the same mix of sugars and carbohydrates etc etc...no wonder they taste nice

Hmm....interesting. Plus I also remember a report that junk food was addictive due to its composition of fats, sugars etc.
I wonder where the impulse to nose pick came from?

*shakes head*
Only on H2G2.
I also bite the bits around my nail, but with hair I used to use it as a kind of floss - pulling it between my teeth till I reached the follicle, which could be sort of 'popped off.'
Now I've got less I take better care of it.....

Ewwww.....even I have to draw the line somewhere!
Mind you, I did try that once as a kid, and recieved a hefty slap round the earhole for being disgusting. It tended to get stuck between my teeth, though - most unpleasant.

yummyy!
i also pick my nose, eat folicles and the skin arond my nails. i love peeling off the nails from my toes and then eating the stuff below the nails, and also eating some of the nails themselves. although there is too much tere to eat it all generally... i cant take it in one sitting. scabs are also tasty!

For the men out there (and the ladies with ronnies), grow a goatee and the distracting action of stroking it will keep your nosril bound hand at bay.
Presuming beard stroking is a better bad habit of course...

Certainly, goatee beard stroking is more socially acceptable and gives a nice air to a person....
Bushy beards, however, just invite trapped food, and that's just wrong.

another solution, if you are always having trouble finding somewhere to put the booger once you have got it out... grow a goatie, and store it in there...

And now for something completely different:
I have no bad habits involving picking at / eating / chewing parts of my body whatsoever. The furthest any sane person should ever go is washing inside their ears now and again.

Not to beat a dead nose or anything...
People with severe nose-picking problems are called rhinotillexomaniacs.
And it COULD kill you.
True.
Or so it says here....
