Never have an ugly front man and a good looking drummer.
Also drummers don't sing.

Ill admit that drummer/vocalists are notoriously rare, but not unheard of. Look at 3 Doors Down. Even though during live performances, they ususually hire a studio drummer, in studio, the Lead vocalist drums.

Not to mention Phil Collins. He was drummer for Genesis before Peter Gabriel took off on his own.

That was probably their first album (self-titled as I re-call), I think they now have a chap called Taylor drumming.
-Ugly front man?
Apart from being highly subjective, I'd say that's a pretty poor suggestion when discussing Musicians. If you buy a CD, you don't have to stare at the album cover, and even at a gig you're not all that often watching the singer - drinking + dancing perhaps? Heck, even on music videos do we rarely see much of the musicians. There are tonnes of musicians out there who aren't God's gift to mirrors, but their music is awesome! The idea is not to buy the image, but to buy the sound.
Besides, long hair and dark glasses can make anyone look cool. And depending on the type of music you're playing, you won't be that likely to attract many members of the opposite sex to your gigs.

Not to be too much of a geek but...Yes it was their first album, and the guy who drums for them now is Taylor Hawkins.
In reference to the rest of this conversation it really doesn't matter what you look like any more. Think it used to a lot more when men were men and women were laying all over the set with tiny bits of string on and very little else!
I recall the uproar when Anthony Kiedis from the Chili Peppers originally cut his hair short, it was a rock outcry.
I'm pretty sure that you could look any way you wanted these days and still be successful, The KLF amongst others have done long haired dance music, any number of bands have had short haired rock. I think we should go for something totally new like different types of Sean Connery/Robin Williams style chest wigs!!!
