Whee! I was waiting for an entry on this. Good job. I was also excited to see "North Canton - Vacuum-cleaner Museum" - I'm from there.

You are NOT from the Vacuum-cleaner Museum! Well, if you are, you haven't told ME.
Anyway, it's a museum for the Hoover Family more than vacuum cleaners.
Well, for the most part it is anyway.
If you are coming here, it is for the amusement parks, not the other stuff.

Hoover - vacuum cleaner - po-tay-toe, po-tah-to.
North Canton, eh? That's on the other side of the state from where I am. Dayton

I hate how British people call vacuums "hoovers". Hoover was the name of the guy who founded the company and therefore the name of the company itself. Odd, though; I wasn't aware that there *was* a museum. Just the factory. If you say to anyone in United Statesia "I'm going to hoover the floor" they'll say, "Huh? " and be all confused.
Even our high school is (sadly) named after the company. Hoover High.

Hello!
I grew up in Ohio too (near Youngstown ... not nearly as nice as North Canton apparently is!) In fact, I'm going home for a visit next month.

I live in Georgia, but I've been to Ohio twice. I've been to St Clairsville, which is in Belmont County, only a few miles from Wheeling, West Virginia. I love it there! After spending a week there back in October 2003 I was enchanted by it and spent another week in April 2004. Now I'm hoping to move there as soon as I can get some sort of career going.
The Ohio Valley got hit pretty bad last week by Hurricane Ivan. My friend, Ken, wrote to me saying, "alot of sh*tty muck to clean up at her moms* the water was 7 inches from getting into her main floor alot of others were not so lucky...all we had to do is put up with no power for 30 hours...alot of roads washed out waterline breaks form landslides people I grew up around lost there whole house..."
*Ken speaks of his mother-in-law's home, which was flooded waist high with water when Frances came through. They had just dried most of it out when Ivan hit.

It was bad! They had to close the bridges over the Ohio River!
My mom took pictures of the Empire locks- all of them open, and the river nearly level! Our house is a long way from the river, and some of our neighbors got damaged by mudslides. Knocked one house clear off the foundation! That's not to mention all the smaller bridges over streams and creeks that got washed away!

All we got was a bit of rain.

Yeah, Ken told me some houses just floated away. I really hope and pray that everyone affected by it can eventually clean up and start over again.
Here in Georgia there was a F4 or F5 tornado that came through Gainesville in 1936 and annihilated everything. But the town persevered and the citizens rebuilt everything. President Roosevelt even came down and did a speech, which my grandmother witnessed.
Good luck to the Ohio Valley and the wonderful citizens who live there!!
