Entry: UPDATE - Seaweed - A23623238
Author: Uncle Travelling Matt (the Hoopy) - U168592
There are moves afoot to change the way Updating is done for the EG.
See this thread; F615?thread=4446876
Thus, this Entry has been submitted to Peer Review to test how the new processes will work. The concept is to make Updates similar to Uni Projects and Flea Market Rescues.
An Update will be highlighted as such in its name, as this Entry has been, and placed into PR for a week. It will then be reviewed as any other Entry by the Peer Reviewers. After a week, if all are happy, the Update will go through and substitute the Original Entry. It will then go into the Coming Up queue to have eventual Front Page kudos (like a Uni Project).
All suggestions on the new processes can be made at the thread mentioned above, a new Updating Process page is being drafted here; A26108886
Now then, onto the Update!
'Seaweed' was highlighted as needing an Update here; F19585?thread=3289561
Original Entry; A139394
Update Forum thread here; F7516291?thread=4243391
Let's get the Updating Process updated!

I should have read this when it was in the Update Forum, but I didn't because, well, it's about seaweed.
More fool me, because you actually made this enjoyable, and dare I say, interesting.
*watches curiously for Update's progress through PR*

Nice one Matt.
Seaweed used to be widely used as a fertiliser, and was harvested as such in Devon and Cornwell, and presumably other areas. Dunno if you want to add that.
I am interested in the update process though - I recently read the entry on Cribbage - don't have the A number to hand, and well, basically its wrong.

Cornwell? It's reknowned for its 'Sharpe' edges...geddit? ha ha.
Anyway, I may add the fertiliser bit if I can find some more info
The Updating process is developing at the moment, and may be changing to make it easier an quicker to update with more input from the community at large.
The plan is that Updates will no longer go into the Update Forum, but instead come through PR, where they will incubate for a week like any other Entry, but also be better reviewed and improved upon by the Peer Review gang, then be updated with the go-ahead of the Updater, Peer Reviewers and Curators/Italics. The updated version of an Entry will then supersede the old one.
Stay tuned for more

It's a good Entry, Matt.
My only concern is paragraphs 2 and 3. You say that there are two main types, the benthic ones which are attached to the bottom, and the pelagic ones (although you don't use that word) which are free floating. At the other end of the scale are the kelp forests which are attached to the bottom. You see how the kelp is out of place - it should be included in with the benthic seaweeds.

Yeah, I agree there, I was trying to mix and match those paragraphs a bit, keep them flowing, but they still didn't sit right for me. I'll see what I can do, but suggestions are welcome
