A Conversation for Seaweed

I live by a beach and often teach science lessons with the algae that is temporarily deposited on the shore. Few children and even fewer adults realize that the hard dry sand-encrusted seaweed I pass around a group, is indeed alive and ready to grow and reproduce at the next tide. Often hard black mussels are hidden in a mass of seaweed. They send out a sticky thread, a la spiderman, to attah to any nearby objects. This gives them a greater mass and increases their chances for survival. Kinda like staying close to the planet increases ours.
