Mediocre people do exceptional things...
...then there's me.
I am not extraordinary but I am unique.
I was fourteen when I joined h2g2.
Back in the year 2000 when that was allowed.
I called myself Halo, after a teddy which sat at the end of my bed.
But it never fitted.
But I have and always will be Emily or Em.
Take your pick.
...a few things I like.
Making things with my hands (metal, material, felt and paper in particular).
Nail varnish (small...or possible pretty bad addiction).
The music of John Martyn, James Blake, Bon Iver and Ray LaMontagne.
Driving (it's the only time I don't get travel sick!).
DVD Box Sets (eg: The West Wing, Game of Thrones, ER, The Newsroom, Battlestar Galactica).
Planting seeds and watching them grow.
Coffee. Milk, two sugars please.
Cats, though we no longer have any.
Shopping for craft supplies.
Glitter...it's like Prozac.
Bubbles...for when glitter isn't enough.
Fairy lights...not just for Christmas.
...h2g2 and me.
Fourteen years ago, I was an obsessive Researcher.
I could and would spend hours, even days on the guides pages.
Writing articles.
Joining clubs (I was an Editor, ACE, Angel and Guru).
And most importantly to me, talking to people in a way that eluded me in real life.
People have always petrified and perplexed me.
They led me to abandon this site, one I loved, because I couldn't cope with real life's painful dramas spilling over here.
I left here, left school and went to university.
I studied design and became a jeweller and metalsmith.
I even got first class honours and a masters...
...and just as I was starting to feel happy...
...feel settled...
...I faltered.
I left uni and I sank.
I stopped communicating with my friends.
I stopped advancing and began to retreat.
Worst, I stopped being able to design.
I came back here...
...after so long away.
Because I hoped against hope to be able to reconnect with old friends.
To find a way to regain my confidence with people.
To research again.
To write and design again.
Making makes me happy.
I want to be happy more than anything else.
I'm still working on that.
If anyone remembers me, say hello.
I miss my old friends...
...but new friends are just as nice.
All the best,
Halo...
...aka Em: Keeper of the Lost Art of 10 minute acts in place of a two word explanation...
...aka Em...
...or in other words, Emily

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
