In haste on a friend of a friend's computer....

Thank you for your words and thoughts over the last few days.

Mum is showing extraordinary fortitude and not allowing a little thing like a t-bone car crash to knock her for six. She came round on Friday morning. By yesterday afternoon - appropriately enough - she was wolfing down chocolate to make up for lost time! It is a joy to see her laughing and full of spirit again. Her body is distressingly bruised and battered from the crash and her legs are in a poor state: not holding her up and agonisingly painful. But other than that she appears to be on the mend, albeit it very tired and still a wee bit confused.

She's seeing the prof (in charge of meds wards) and the physio today, so we'll have a clearer idea of what lies in the immediate future. We're hoping she'll be moved to the cottage hosp soonish. It's a lovely wee place with fabulous nursing care, excellent food and her favourite GP on 24 hour call. And of course all her friends can visit her there much more easily.

To say it's a miracle would be stretching it a wee bit, but nobody in the hospital ever expected to see her eyes open again. And of course nor did we. It seems she had a seizure of some sort 36 hours after the accident, then 'slept' for 48 hours.

I knew that I was right, except some people disagreed. it doesn't matter how ill a person may be, there is always hope smiley - ok

This has clearly been proved by Frenchbean's mother. Frenchbean did not think that she would last long and was thinking about funerals etc, and her mother has shown signs of improvement smiley - smiley

Moving On

I've been keeping an eye open for you since I read your news Fb - just have been too busy (guests over Easter) to write anything that would be meaningful or uplifting that hadn't been said already.

Your old girl sounds to me like a tough old bird - it's good to hear she seems to be on the mend. And fair play to you for dropping everything to travel from one side of the world to the other to see her do sosmiley - ok

All the best to both you and your mamsmiley - smiley

The latest from hospital is that Mum is now eating everything they put in front of her (seriously good food at Dumfries: I can vouch for it smiley - winkeye) and she is fed up being stuck so far from her home town.

Her legs continue to be very weak and wobbly, as well as unbelievably swollen. I keep expecting to hear they've burst. Poor thing: she's pretty frustrated. The move to the cottage hospital can't come soon enough for her, but we don't know when that will happen - the legs have to be sorted out first.

Thank you for all your good wishes.

I have to fly back to Chchch at the weekend and there is no chance of me making any meet I'm afraid. I'm 9 hours a day hospital visiting/driving/picnicking between visiting and sleep much of the rest of the time - inbetween attending to Her Majesty's various commands smiley - snork

That'll be it for at least a week... no computer access until I get home.
