"Hey Mister President, listen to me-a-eeee..."
When are you going to stop moderating every sodding word I write? It is getting so utterly tedious.
Please could whoever monitors the content of this pass it on. I was under the impression my case was being considered, but this has been going on for ages.
I was told to e-mail in any such messages, but, as I have made clear, I deleted the e-mails as I got them due to a crowded account and am therefore unable to e-mail in my protestations.
At the very least could somebody tell me what exactly is going on? While I understand the reason for being put under pre-moderation, I have made it clear that I am sincerely sorry for breaking the rules and that I will be a good boy in the future, but nothing seems to have been done about it.
Please, please will you help me! All other routes have been exhausted and I have received no adequate answers to my questions.
Rt. Rev. Lesley Gentle

Hmm, as you've been told a couple of times now, there is no way any of the italics are going to get involved in moderation discussions on-line... Instead of just deleting e-mails "due to a crowded account" Why not just set up a separate hotmail or other free e-mail account exclusively for use with this site

Answer - Because I use one e-mail account and don't want to have to check countless others.
As I stated quite clearly, I have no other way of getting in contact. You may draw from that a request for them to contact me, or otherwise you may like to give me an 'informative' lesson on how best to manage multiple e-mail accounts.
I'm not looking for discussion on the issue, again, I have set out my case quite clearly, I am seeking some information as to what is going on.
Otherwise, thanks for the prompt response.

Then why not simply post to an italics page asking them directly for an e-mail address... If you want to sort it out and E-mail is the only way they'll talk about it then you haven't an awful lot of choice in the matter.

Why do you think I was asking these questions? I don't know who to go to or ask. That is why I posted the question here.
I have asked the same on an ask the editors page or whatever it is called and received no help at all.
I don't understand the problem though, there is no reason why one of them can't just reply on my space as far as I can see. I just want a simple answer to how long I am going to be pre-moderated for, yet we have to go through all this fuss of finding out 'the mystery e-mail address'.
I reiterate, I am not looking for a discussion, I don't want to get into

... a debate about my behaviour, I have made my opinions clear and they have been read and considered by the italics already. I don't understand why their is any need for this formality.
I just want to know if pre-moderation is permanent. Does nobody understand this point?

You've already been talking to the right person...
F47997?thread=235382
Try asking on her page for an e-mail address... you've said you don't want to get into a discussion, which is exactly why the Italics do not discuss moderation issues on-site - to stop conversations developing into arguements when third parties get involved... why you've been put on pre-moderation is nothing to do with me and to be honest it's far better that way, I don't need to know why, it's strictly between yourself and the staff.
Hope that helps

Oh and one other point... I seriously doubt any of the staff will notice this conversation anyway, I don't think any of them are actually subscribed to your journal so unless one of your posts is failed by a moderator they won't respond to this because they'll never see it!
Your postings aren't automatically being checked by the staff of h2g2, it's the DNA moderators who are checking them, among all the other posts they're reading for all the other BBC DNA sites

Thanks for the information, I have searched around the site and failed to find these things.
I have no problem with anybody knowing why I am on pre-mod. I believe is that it is for writing a few pieces including a tongue-in-cheek article on heroin in my journal and for a few other 'humourous' pieces and posts that have overstepped the boundaries in terms of taste, decency and colourful language e.g. a John Lesley biography, resulting in them being edited or removed.
I hold my hands up to my misdemeanours but would just like to make it abundantly clear that I haven't posted racist material or links to pornography or anything of that nature.

it does seem a bit damn complicated though.I assumed the moderation was done by h2,as well.Suddenly my friendly little site looks a tad sinister. But as you say no point in argueing that here.

The BBC subcontracts moderation.... basically, there is a very lonely and bored person out there, sat at home in front of a computer, reading every single message writen on every DNA site (out of context but with a link back to the conversation) and checks it against the BBC rules...
Or at least that used to be the case... nowadays they don't, in general, have to read posts to the hub or to h2g2, the only time the moderator sees posts to those particular sites is if someone presses the complaint button or a researcher is on pre-moderation.
So there are a couple of steps between you and the staff of h2g2, when you post, the moderator looks at it and has three choices: 1) They pass it then it appears on site... 2) They consider it is against the rules and fail the post completely, in which case you get an email from the moderation service, not from the italics directly (although I'd assume that they get a copy of the e-mail as well). And finally 3) They are not sure so they refer the post back to the staff of h2g2 and they make the final pass/fail decision.

Oh and in case you haven't seen it... this was in the Post a few months ago... when pro-active moderation was dropped one of the moderators finally got the chance to show a human face and let us see their side of the coin...
