How come I am not a fervent contributor to H2G2, though I think and have experienced this is the best place to read and to meet intelligent, generous and humorous individuals?
How come it is easier to check Facebook a couple of times a day?
Facebook doesn't satisfy my thirst for knowledge about people, how you think and feel. What you actually mean ...
On the other hand H2G2 craves a lot of time - at least for us to whom English is a second language - and, to whom, like me, want to be as clever and clear about our real and deep down opinions about whatever we chose to engage in.
I have been an absent fan and contributor for about a year, and I cannot see a way to be more active - though I miss you all a lot.
Maybe I'm just too old to be an asset? Maybe because of my ity I can pick and choose...
I hope so.......

I only (or mainly) use facebook to play games. If I want to know how m friends are doing, I come here. I hardly ever see status updates on fb.

I've no interest or inclinations for any of the games or quizzes on FB. I do like that I can keep in easy contact with friends of several worlds (not just h2g2) and rather distant family members. And as I am not subscribed to anyone that is particularly annoying in any way, I don't accidentally run across anything that is likely to bother me.

Like Hati I believe I know how you feel, Tartaronne
I keep in touch with family, friends (and some hootooers) on Facebook
But Hootoo is still my favourite hangout and I fail to see how this will ever be different, now that we have our independence back

all for dropping by and encourage me.
I don't play games on Facebook but I have a quick look through what family, friends and acquaintances find interesting, important and fun.
And then I have chats with different people - from Canada, across Europe to Australia.

Like you, and like many others here, I feel at home in the way we share of ourselves and our lives, in the way we use words to express our thoughts, in the different manners of communication we use. Because this site isn't bombarded with flashy banners and glitz, it's easier to concentrate on the meaning of the message, without all the distracting side-bars and advertisements. Here, we can take the time to collect our thoughts, run with an idea, and write as if generating a whole new reality. It's comfortable here among the words and the personalities. There's always something new to learn from our closest on-line acquaintances, something we hadn't thought to ask yet and now it comes to light.
Do stay. Do play. Do tell us all about what you see and feel. We're listening...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
