Tango and Psycorp.
I don't talk that much with LW as I don't hang around in the same places as him - I find them way too trivial for my tastes. And anyway, he's currently banned.

He is? Wondered why I hadn't seen him around lately. How long?

Tango is still around?
I didn't know that LW was banned. How can someone be 'currently banned'? I thought banning was a lifetime thing - or did you mean suspended?
I also don't tend to visit the type of threads that LW was usually on, though he showed up here and there and was usually quite exasperating.

banned suspended, suspended banned. I kind of thought that the word 'currently' in the sentence implied that it wasn't a permanent sort of thing. But hey, my grammar is appalling, so who am I to complain if folk get hold of the wrong end of the stick
LW's 'block on posting with his account' started just before Christmas and I believe is to last for a month.

I've just done a little research - as far as I can make out he's suspended for a month. Difficult to tell considering the verbal skills of some of the people in the threads I looked at. Oy!

I thought Tango had been released now?

Yes, it did. Which was why I couldn't understand how someone could be 'currently banned'. Likewise when Della went on after her one month suspension about having been 'banned'.
Not a grammar thing, more an h2g2 rules thing. Perhaps I should be posting this on the 'Pendant' thread . . .

Actually az with you being a Canadian, I think we've found another one of those transatlantic differences in the use of the language.
Over here the word 'banned' is most likely used in the context of a driving ban. Such as, "He was found guilty of driving without due care and attention and has received a 3 month driving ban and a fine of £400". Now driving bans are overwhelmingly a temporary affair: up to a couple of years in all but the worst cases. So to me and I guess all British folk, the use of the word banned implies something temporary unless qualified with the word, say, 'permanently'.
Interesting stuff

Not at all, GD. As I said, I was using the terminology of h2g2, according to the House Rules. From what I understand - in h2g2 terms - a suspension is a temporary thing and a ban is a lifetime thing.

seems to have dominated my last two New Year's Eves... last time out, I went to bed at half ten due to needing to get up early on New Year's Day to report on my first ever league game (Bournemouth v Brentford). This year was a lot more fun. I'd been invited to a themed party, so decided to shave my head completely bald (may hair had, believe it or not, grown back much thicker than I expected it to but I'd been getting bored not knowing what to do with it) and went as Pierluigi Collina, the scary bald Italian ref.

But Collina is about six-foot two tall...

It's not the admitting that's the problem, that's fine, but saying they are nice, isn't. It's a fine line. (Geddit?)

Well so we are all supposed to stick to the Reagan line of:
"All drugs are all bad and there is no benefit or positive whatsoever so the only reason to take them is if you are and evil person".... blah blah blah.
Look I think people need to be honest there is a reason why people do drugs, that reason is they make you (for a time) feel good.
The truth is that for *most* drug users in the UK this is the be all and end all, millions of people for example smoke cannabis every week (according to our own government stats) yet magically hold down jobs and dont go on killing rampages.
*Of* course there is a negative side (the reason why I *used* to enjoy drugs) the negative side of them is real. But so is the positive bit and if we dont acknowledge this then how on earth is it ever going to be possible to have a grown up conversation about the topic?

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Jan 3, 2006
Well, I had a good New Year. Although I did discover that a) Black Canary costuems are cold outside and b) It is rather important to ensure the airbombs are placed the right way up before lighting.
Sorry to hear you didn't have such a great one GD- but at least next year you will (hopefully) be able to look back and say 'well, not as crap as last year'. Personally I think the key to good new year is to spend it with people you normally socialise with, therefore it doesn't have to seem 'special'.

I suppose that it's no great surprise that I have negative views towards cocaine. My drug of choice, back in the days when I chose to take drugs, was ketamine. Now of course that being a horse anaesthetic, is a drug which has pretty much the opposite effect of charlie!

When I tried coke I became one of those prattling wankers at the party. I blithered on endlessly and smoked too many cigarettes... I felt twitchiness rather than any kind of euphoria. So, can't say I see the great appeal either.

Better be carefull though how we approach posting on this subject. I have had a very nice email from TPTB basically explaining that they are in a very difficult position re: moderation and drugs. Whilst I disagree I do understand, and both my modded posts from the last dot will remain hidden.
Key: Complain about this post
