There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Started conversation Mar 20, 2003
In Jim Lynn's journal a few days ago there was mention of Hootoo civil disobediance along the lines of not yikesing war-related posts as a passive way of making known our displeasure over the BBC policy regarding discussion of the current Middle East situation.
I've noticed this morning that Dragonfly has reverted to her original Researcher number, and I'm wondering if this is also some kind of protest. I don't see a journal entry about it D, but I don't think I've gotten as far as your fanclub in my more postings page yet.
Anyways, I've decided to make a stand myself and remove my nickname until this is all over. Anyone else with me? I reckon the sig ought to too
Signing off as Gosho for the duration.

AS i am beeing pretty ambivalent in my opinions on the ongoing conflict in .. eeh,Persia, and the rest of the world to, i have not uttered my mind on these subjects.. Yet, at least. But i am in absolute disaproval of this "shut yer face" policy beeing implemented, and therefore most willing to show my solidarity with likeminded world citizens. A total newcomer,i probably won´t be missed much, but ..Consider it done.. Researcher 222398

This is a nice idea. I'm really not a typical protester, but this sort of moderation is a shame for BBC or h2g2 or whatever is responsible for this. I've signed the protest list at A1000080, so probably it would be counter-productive if I deleted my name, because I think that it's not completely unknown. Probably I will simply add A1000080 to my name.

I can't play this game!
I can't remember Dragonfly's
and Gosho's researcher numbers,
and it'll get worse if many more
researchers revert to their numbers.
But I have a few grumbles about *the policy*:
1. The big media organizations (BBC is one of them)
are free to give *the conflict* saturation coverage.
We just wanna be like them, but they won't let us.
Actually, the media are worse than any of us could
be. We don't know nearly as much as they do.....
2. Those of us who are not British came to H2G2
because it was what it was, not because it had
anything to do with the BBC. I for one don't see a
point in having to go outside H2G2 to discuss things.
They couldn't even have one thread on *the conflict*
at H2G2? Why?

I think the BBC is just learning how different the internet is to any other form of mass communication Paul. Did you read my post about that in Dragonfly's fan club?

147203 ( ) I fail to see the point
The main purpose of h2g2 is to create the Guide to [...], Earth edition. IMHO this implies the aspect of hindsight, as opposed to the discussion of ongoing affairs. The BBC as a whole does provide a place for this discussion, and I can understand that they want to keep their moderation (or whatever) efforts concentrated in a single place.

Taken as a whole, the Earth is *mostly harmless.*
I like to think that my comments on any subject
would fall into the mostly harmless category.
Anyway, Monsignore, I do concede that there
will always be some people who don't find it
necessary to make any mention of the major
events of their times. For instance, in the
U.S. Civil Way (1860-1865), diaries of women
in the war zone (particularly the South) survive
which do not mention anything about the war
that was raging in their midst.
So, we aren't all cut from the same cloth.
Being able to tune out what's going on around
you and focus on writing Guide articles on
topics far removed from today's current events
is probably a pretty useful talent to have.
I find that I can't concentrate on my work
when there's a hurricane or violent thunderstorm
or major blizzard going on outside.
That's just me. Maybe someone else can relate
to it, though?

Well, I've never felt inclined to discuss 'politics' on h2g2, and I don't particularly wish to discuss the current conflict. I would, however, like to feel that I could freely make a journal entry that mentioned how certain events have had an effect here on the 'home front'. On the other hand, whilst thinking about what I would have posted, I realised how easily I could have posted things (living and working where I do) that are quite possibly classified information.

given the media saturation that these types of things generate, i for one am quite happy to have somewhere to which i can escape mention of specific current events.
and so how do i abuse my haven? by sitting here discussing the fact that i'm glad i don't see discussions about it
