A Brummie is someone who comes from Birmingham in England. Like me. Apparently we have the most unappealing accent in the country, and posh people like Uncle Heavy laugh at us.

On the contrary, Americans (like me) who visit England (not like me) have harsher, more nerve grating accents than anyone from Birmingham could possibly have.

believe me, in comparisson to scouse and thick brummie, the american accent is positively melifluous.

Well to be fair there is nore then on accent from that area of the Midlands and someone with a Black Country accent would be miffed just to be lumped in with the brummies.

It never ceases to amaze me that you can have so many distinct accents in such a small country.
Granted we do have a *few* individual towns in the US that have their own distinct accent, but most people in this country would find it very difficult to distinguish between a southern accent in general, and a Martinsville, Virginia brogue.

such an impersonal country
ozzy's accent is cool...but some brummies sound not so groovy

Ah, Ms. Clelba: a diplomatic young lady if ever there was one.
And Abi's right: there are loads of Midlands accents. Someone from Dudley sounds different to someone from Wolverhampton (or 'Wolverampton', as it is pronounced in these parts ), and in turn, they sound different to someone from Birmingham proper. Only you lot just can't tell the subtleties of our conversation...
