Errrr... exactly what do you want me to tell you? It's quite a big topic. Unless you want ideas for plot, characters, dialogue, structure etc?

...Yes... structure...
Another convo just to be annoying... Just like Sam Kisgart...
Awix Posted Jul 19, 2003
well structure kind of depends on plot, and plot depends on characters... simplifying hugely there...
So if you're going with the superhero as rockstar idea, you have to decide whether your main character's going to be a superhero, or someone else like a groupie or a journalist or one of their agents or whatever.
If I were you I'd pick a music business story, like HearSay splitting up or Elvis dying or someone being sued for plagiarism, and give it a superpowered spin.

Apologies for spelling again... post 18 again I think...
I want to know what it is about this place that messes up my spelling. I'm fine writing down!

That convo I'm going to hit you for...
I'm not actually bothered about the low turn-out rate.. but are you admitting that you read it??
It's funny you mentioned that because this week I decided to do a short rant on theme tunes of TV (and movies)... I could have listed my favourite themes but I've thought of it just now....
I was thinking of moving into 'theme' reviews as opposed to just one programme....
As for Fortysomething... be glad you haven't seen that pile of dribble...

*You're* going to hit *me*? Oh, sweet irony!
Hey, just trying to help. Yes, I read the column, how else do i know which bits to send to my lawyer?
I occasionally write TV-related reviews under the title Idiot Box but whereas with movie reviews I try to be mainly informative and secondarily funny, with the TV stuff it's the other way around so even people who haven't seen the show (which is normally most of them) will enjoy the article...

I'm aware of the neutrality we've came to when we 'threaten' each other...
I was thinking of asking you to do some kind of guest review.. seeing as spook had a cameo.. thought it would be helpful to have your name in the thing to help publicise me but came to the realisation that that would feed your ego!
Besides... I could do you for slander with that speech impediment thing!

Awix Posted Jul 22, 2003
Oh, only kidding... just as in international politics, the ability to mutually threaten and bully is always a sign of a strong relationship...
You want me to write a guest review for SSS? Er... of anything in particular? You also appear to be under two major misapprehensions - a) that my name on an article will be any kind of incentive to get others to read it and b) that I have an ego!
The Terry Pratchett thing wasn't slander, it was just a suggestion based on... I don't know, partly my impression of the man's personality. My apologies...

Er, looks okay to me. Not my personal cup of tea, I have to say, but the world don't move to the beat of just one drum...

Just wanted your opinion, I somehow knew those kind of things weren't your thing!
Nice plug for Diff'rent Strokes there...
Which film shall we talk about now then?

?
No, I kind of had my fill of that sort of thing when I (briefly) joined a TNG fan group in the early 90s... It was basically a quasi-cult set up by a plasterer from Rotherham who enjoyed being called 'Admiral' by everyone else involved.
I bought The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp on video today, shall we talk about that?

[...] Posted Jul 23, 2003
Never heard about that... movie..?
And 'mine' is a game, not a cult though i hate 'join-up' speeches.. It's technically a fan group but it is a game...
If TNG stands for The next generation i've been watching too much TV even though I hate that programme emphatically!

You have a nasty habit of disappearing, you know that?
One-liners then *blip* disappear... then you appear about a little later then you're finished for the day!

Awix Posted Jul 23, 2003
I'm about to go *blip* again for the evening - I have to do the ironing then watch an Angelina Jolie movie (for review purposes, obviously).
Yup, TNG is Trek. Things were different back in the early 90s, Trek was pretty much the only game in town if you liked proper SF on TV. i'm much less into it now than I was then. I'd make it a bit clearer that your thing is a game...
Blimp is a classic British movie from the 40s about the British empire and the British army in between 1895 and 1945. Powell and Pressburger. Roger Livesey. Ah, what bliss!

Yeeeeeah... revieeew...
Wish it was Tomb Raider II... Not that I liked the games or the first movie...
I just thought that Chris Barrie as the butler in that scene where Croft is getting burgaled.. and all you see is the butler slip his slippers on and the camera moves up to see him holding a shotgun...
Great scene.

Awix Posted Jul 24, 2003
The first Tomb Raider was a load of old cobblers, and that's being generous to it. Badly written, badly acted, unoriginal and not particularly exciting. Chris Barrie was the best thing in it (not that that's saying much) - he didn't seem too impressed with it himself when last I saw him...

!!!!!!
Where are these conventions?
He signed up for the sequel anyway! I said it was a great scene... didn't say the film was good!
