Spent a big chunk of the day reinstalling software. Now I've got all the essentials back on my main machine and can get back to work writing. If only I wasn't stuck on the chapter I should be working on the most...

Also did some more work in the garden, started some prep work for the duck area, got in some target practice, and did the usual round of farm chores. All in all, just another day.

Finally bit the bullet and installed a fresh hard drive on my main working machine so that I could start with a clean copy of Windows 2000. After a mere six hours of work at least I'm back on the net and email. Now I get to have the fun of reinstalling all my other software. Blah.

Did some more work in the garden today, with Dana's help: raking mulch, pulling weeds. I'd like to get the compost in by the end of next week so that it can sit a while and we can do another round of weeding before the real seeds are in. The biggest nuisance is the poison hemlock, which sprouts from the root and is tough to eradicate.

I also cleaned out some junk from the area that we intend to use for duck housing this spring, including an old cast-iron bathtub. Since that was already cracked, I used a sledgehammer to reduce it to manageable pieces. Thank heavens for hearing protection!

Two chapters of author review and some time on the phone with a Microsoft program manager accounted for my paying work for the day.

I don't care if it's still February; with a high of 50 today, it felt like spring. I did a bunch of work on the garden plot, clearing off old mulch and weeds so that I can rototill in some compost before we plant.

Tonight was our second prenatal class at the hospital. We talked about fun things like relaxation techniques, and serious things like the stages of pregnancy. So far we're still mostly exhilarated, mixed with the predictable moments of pure panic.

We made the trek over to Moscow, Idaho today. Moscow is just over the state line into no-sales-tax territory. It's thus no accident that there's a Wal-Mart about 100 feet into Idaho. We were looking for bookshelves, since I'm getting tired of having books stacked up in corners. Unfortunately even the cheap ones are too expensive; we're going to have to buy lumber and build our own.

The trip wasn't a complete loss, as we did manage to find some other odds and ends we needed and did a little grocery shopping on the way home.
