Moderately productive day; wrote some code and did some editing. However, productivity came to an abrupt halt this afternoon when a new computer showed up. It's just a cheapo Linux box, with just enough memory to run Oracle server (which is its purpose in life). Of course, my Linux knowledge is spotty, so getting Oracle set up is proving to be a challenge. In fact, I poked at it the rest of the day without finishing the job, and finally ended up in front of a fire reading about the eastern front in WWII instead.

Happy Valentine's Day.

We spent the evening at another birthing class, learning about breathing and relaxing and pushing and labor positions and watching films.

When we went in it was raining. When we got out, it was snowing heavily. The drive home took an hour instead of the normal 30 minutes, and I'm exhausted.

Good night.

Well, over the last half hour the Internet has gone to pot, at least from here. Sites are randomly unreachable, my ISP's DNS seems spotty...probably there is more DDOS madness going on somewhere. If you don't know what that means, the simple translation would be "the stupid kiddies are partying on the wires again."

Hauled two wheelbarrows full of mixed horse poop, sheep poop, and composting hay out of the stable today. There's more.

I've been cleaning up a little corral area behind the stable that we intend to turn into duck housing. Ducks are scheduled to arrive in April, so there's a little time. That's a good thing, because our plans are sort of ambitious: we want to roof the whole area over with wire or netting so we don't have to clip wings.

More snow today, interspersed with freezing rain. Our little burst of springtime appears to be on hold.

I spent the time indoors at the computer, wrestling with recalcitrant software. The only bright spot in a day of cursing at computers is that I was being paid to do it, which somehow makes it all a lot more worthwhile. I think I'm getting deep-down tired of misbehaved software, though, as I ended up with a splitting headache and had to go out in the snow and dig ditches for a while to calm down.

Slowly, bit by bit, we're tidying up this place. Today saw the assembly of some new shelves upstairs in the office, and the relocation of the giant (and noisy) tape drive to a room downstairs. I wonder how long it will be before there are computing devices in every room?

We got some snow this morning, so I didn't spend as much time on yardwork as I have lately, but I still cut down some more brush. That job still seems practically endless, and I'd like to get it done before there are fruit trees to plant.
