The only century leap day I'll ever see.

After much screwing around, finally got an Oracle database up and running under Linux. The next step is to try to connect to it from somewhere else. Fun fun fun.

Spread six wheelbarrows full of compost on the first garden plot for the year. My back is beginning to remember why spring is not necessarily a good season.

We're just back from the local hospital where we had another round of birthing classes. Tonight we heard from one of the local MDs (good news: they are far below the national average for unplanned C-sections and encourage a gradual approach to pain relief), and saw the delivery room (a bit stark, but not too bad, and a choice of bed, chair, or shower to labor in).

Wrote a litle, worked on the duck villa, shoveled some horse poop. All in all, an average day.

Lots of miscellaneous goings-on around the farm today. The broody hen abandoned her eggs for a few hours this afternoon, but she (or another hen?) is back on them tonight. I have no idea how long they can cool without ill effects, but we might as well let her keep setting.

Made cheese for the first time today. In a few more days I'll put some wax on it, and then hopefully we'll have cheddar in a couple of months.

Caught up on business accounting, rah.

The guinea fowl roamed all over the place today. As the weather warms, they seem to get more restless. Who knows how far they'll be wandering by mid-summer...

A day of paperwork and not a whole lot else. We did manage a trip into Colfax to buy some hardware and some groceries. But we timed it wrong, so the building center wasn't open and we didn't get the shingles we need for the duck house. I keep forgetting that Saturday hours around here are thoroughly limited.

Made progress on various things today. Finished framing the duck villa and got some more siding on it. Cut more brush down in the yard (still hoping for our fruit trees to show up to be planted). Of course there were all the usual animal-related chores.

Also managed to edit 2 chapters in galley and 3 in manuscript. Still not caught up by a long shot, but at least I managed to finish the goals I set for myself today. With luck, I'll be on top of deadlines by the time I need to start spending more time outside tending to the yard and garden.

Now that the weather is turning better, so is my mood.
