My current theory is that the chickens are actually going under the chicken wire. I put some boards up against the outside of their chicken yard to try to put a stop to this. We'll see if it really helps tomorrow, I guess. I feel like I spent half of today chasing chickens down.
Spent the other half of the day reading, relaxing, and poking at some software (a new build of Thumber for H2G2, and a mailing list manager). Reasonably refreshing, and tomorrow I'll get back to work.

A pretty quiet day around the farm, with reading galley proofs and author reviews alternated with puttering. I put up a shelf in the chicken coop and arranged the nest boxes on it. Now all I have to do is convince the chickens to lay their eggs there, in clean straw, instead of in odd corners. Most of them seem to have taken the hint.
Dumped some ashes down the canyon and spent an hour burning trash to make more ashes tonight. There's some sort of moral there, but I'm not sure what it is.

We lost one of our laying hens to a dog attack today. We really need to do something to keep those hens from getting out of the chicken yard.
Slowly dragging myself out of the writer's block, though I'm still not producing as well as I should. At least I'm keeping up with me editorial schedule on material already written, even if I am behind on writing new material.
First anniversary of our Islamic wedding. We celebrated with fried chicken and mashed potatoes. We are a peculiarly multicultural household at times.

Spent a good chunk of the day reinstalling software, one of the joys of beta testing and working on unreleased versions. It's a living, or part of one, I suppose.
Otherwise spent most of the time staring at a screen and not writing. I hate it when I get in one of these slumps. I know that in a day or two I'll get back to work (at least, it's always worked that way in the past) but I always feel so guilty when writer's block strikes.

Donated another pint of blood today; that makes 53. At this pace, I'll hit the ten-gallon mark in another 3 years or so.
We also ran our usual bunch of errands while in town (Colfax)...bank, fabric store, grocery store, grange. We spent more on animal feed than people feed this week. That's OK, there are more of them then there are of us.
It's warmed up a bit and has been raining buckets instead of snowing. Our stream is running swifter and fuller than we've ever seen it.
