Well, not as much as I'd like, naturally. But with a small pension from the 21 years I gave them in a uniform, ... We get by and the roof over our head is sound.

I imagine slate would make a sound of it's own, with a good rain. Our roof is covered with asphalt shingles. Very politely quiet, even in hail-storms.

We've a simple bungalow, and an attic adequate for ventillation through the heat of our summers, and the raw colds of our winters.

We have a full-sized and finished basement for that. Though I still do need to eliminate clutter every few years. I'm a bit of a pack-rat.

Now, ... I have a saying: It seems unfair that I have so much nicer in-laws than my wife has.
