Quite probably. For years, we had lived in communities of 300-500 people. So it would always fall to the same 6 or 8 "volunteers" to do anything. I wore many "titles", as did my wife. Now, in a somewhat larger place of about 18,000, we find ourselves not quite as involved in community.
Being members of an Air Force Association, we still get involved with a number of the other service clubs in town though. 
And so it goes ...

It seems not very long ago that a sweet little girl told me that 30 was OLD !!! As she approaches her 24th birthday, ... now it's 50 that is ANCIENT !!! Perspective, eh?
