We need to decide on the first word of the new game if we want to continue. I'll throw a test word in but any problems just say and we can discuss it more here.

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship. Posted May 12, 2004
Well done, Vestboy. Seems to have solved the problem.
Are you happy with this?
Is there going to be a Roll of Honour?
Would be pleased to help....

I quite like the idea of the 3, 2, 1 vote. I think that Neri used a staggered voting system like formula 1 when scoring which would mean that we would need a voting system that would reflect that. If one of us put forward a word which took all but one vote it gets harder to have a league table.
If we have first second and third chosen with every player saying what their top three words would be then the points would be shared out a bit more.
That's why we needed the separate area for voting. I would suggest a player's vote counts as 3 points for their first choice, 2 for a second and 1 for a third and the word with the most votes overall is the winning word. No voting for your own words - obviously.

Well done Vestboy
That all sounds fine
I think the only thing left is to decide is how long people have to submit entries and how long to vote
I don't think we could manage more than 1 word a week
presumably the winner chooses the next word

Let's say the new word goes up on Friday.
This would then be the weekly timetable:
Last word to be accepted by noon Thursday. (GMT)
All votes to be in by noon Friday. (GMT)
Winner to select new word before Friday Midnight. (GMT)
I want to avoid having responsibility for running this and I know there were occasional, unavoidable quiet times when Neri had to do other stuff.
If I set up a couple more threads we should be able to self manage everything without one individual having to do much more.
I think that with open scoring we can keep a league table quite easily and the winning telegrams can be easily added to a separate thread.

Sounds good
If we divide responsibility a bit we can make it a bit less burdensome.
MMF and Venus both seem prepared to help. I'd be happy to keep the league table up-to-date or do anything else that didn't require me to be online every day.

Thanks Lil. I've had another thought. I think the winner should be able to pick a word AND play on it. They don't really have any advantage as the quality of play is very high and the scoring is by all of the players - not just the winner.
I'm not asking so that I can play this round but I think we need all the players we can get!
What do people think?

Personally I would agree. But I think I will just ask Venus to call in. She and Liquid Warrior both should have a say. Although I understand LW is not online all the time.
Won't be long!!

ok got here eventually
Are your sure about the winner picking the next word?? I only ask because a few of the regulars are not online more than once a week. It could make things awkward

I've thrown some draft rules together. None of the draft rules are sacrosanct and I'm happy to discard, amend or keep any of them as people wish.
Hi Venus, the word picking could be done on a rota basis by regular players I suppose. Any other thoughts? Maybe there is a random way of doing it based on the Front Page of H2G2 or something.

Have read the proposed 'rules' and they seem fairly workable to me! The only way we're going to find out is to play a game and see what happens! Am happy to help out on the days when I'm online but unfortunately this isn't every day

I would be willing to choose the word and not play. I like playing but have had telegram block lately so I'd just as soon not play for a while. Thanks for setting this up Vestboysam.

Good morning all! Good night's sleep and I'm fighting fit.
According to my sundial there's about 4 and a half hours left to get in late entries before the noon deadline. (Remember UK peeps that we aren't on GMT at the moment. BST is an hour ahead so you'll have an extra hour to play despite what your clock/watch says).
Hellboundforjoy, Can I call you Hellboundforjo for short? I think that's a very magnanimous offer of yours to pick words and should keep the thing running for a while. I think we should indicate the word picker in the play area so that it's clear for everyone but discussion of who it should be should remain here.
I will get telegram_sam to amend the rules accordingly.
