Thinking of leaving place smiley - ermI'm in- not too concerned, as plenty of other jobs around!!smiley - smiley- if you are prepared to travel-(like the White Van Man!smiley - winkeye)-you can get work anywhere in the NHS (for example, Liverpool are crying out for out of hours GPs)

The worried well... Yes...

My ex who had mood swings, was diagnosed as depressed, treated as depressed and otherwise fobbed off by the docs for years (what's that, you get an irregular heartbeat? It's just stress, try to relax) was two weeks ago rushed to hospital after suffering a 'funny turn' which worried him. they took bloods this time and ran a couple of tests.

He was rung two days later by his doctor at 6pm saying go to hospital, I've got a bed arranged for you, you could drop dead any minute.

Turns out his 'depression and mood swings' was due to having had type 2 diabetes for some considerable period of time, undiagnosed and his funny turn along with previous wobbles, 'anxiety attacks' etc. were actually small to middling heart attacks.

And he'd been treated like the worried well for years.

smiley - sadface

I also have a good friend who had cancer, but her doctor insisted for years that it was a benign growth and there was nothing wrong with her. It's now spread to other parts of her body, her stomach for one, is manageable but not treatable as such and will most likely be the cause of her death in the future, be it near or far. She nearly died at christmas and has gone from being a big healthy farm girl to a tiny slip of a thing with no strength, hardly any appetite...

Both of them got apologies. Which is nice.

I know these things are impossible to always catch, but not everyone who comes in with a small niggle is imagining it, sometimes it's taken them months to think it's bad enough to tell anyone. Even when they've been about to drop dead on more than one occasion.

All our depressed patients get a full set of bloods (including fasting glucose- which would detect diabetes, and thyroid tests, and a full blood count-which could pick up a malignancy)-before being labelled as depressed!!smiley - biggrin

After all that- (and other tests, eg ECG, total body CT + other radioactive imaging)- if they are still mad, bad, sad or just from Burnley- I think its safe to assume its all supra-tentorial, or coming from their minds!smiley - wah

Oh well- depression is common I'm afraidsmiley - tea
