I've been waiting for over a year to finally get my carpal tunnel syndrome resolved. It looks like my wait is nearly over. I got the approval for surgery from the Workers Comp Board, and a surgery date from my doctor! Surgery is scheduled for Thing, August 19th. Good things usually happen on Thing for me, so I hope that continues!
I've just had one final glitch. My Human Resources department says it has no record of my injury. I hope it's just a mix up, because it was originally filed under my maiden name. I wrote them a very detailed letter, and sent them copies of all the Worker's Comp reports. I'd keep my fingers crossed if it didn't hurt so much.
The timing of the surgery couldn't be better! Our nephew is getting married in Ohio on August 28, and I'll still be out of w**k then. I won't be able to carry bags, but we should still be able to make the trip. I'm also going to be missing most of the Republican Convention, which starts on August 30th. I hate to leave my friend with all the extra w**k, but I'm happy to be missing it!
My sister called today, and it looks like she'll be having surgery as well. Hers will be around Labor Day. We're a couple of real cut ups ...

My very dear Shea,big
At last!!. I cannot believe that it has taken so long. Well, my dear I wish you well. I can remember that you damaged it at work!!. You will have to look up your old postings on the hootoo website!.
I wonder how long this surgery will make you inactive? I also wonder how much sick leave they will give you. A wrist joint must be very important to a graphic artist. Are you by any chance ambidedtrous and could you do any of your work with your other hand?
Thank goodness you have TJ to look after you and care for you.
I am off to France on the 30th of July returning on the 9th August. I am really looking forward to it. Knowing that K. is being well lookd after, and that I do not have to worry about him will be - and is - such a wonderful feeling that it has taken years off my life and I really feel energised again.
I send you both my muost affectionate greetings.
Your loving friend

Hope it all goes well. You'll be in my thoughts.
(August 28th is my birthday, and I was born on a Thing. What a small world it is. )

My mum has had the same operation (on both wrists now I believe) and it has worked wonders. I can't remember the recovery time but I don't think it was too long before she was fully active again.
and good riddance to any of those steroid injections they have probably been filling you with.

My thoughts are with you for a successful surgery and quick recovery.
But more of my thoughts are with us hootooers! How will we survive without your presence and wit around here during your recuperation!!!

Perhaps she'll be able to post here *more* often during her recuperation - using a pencil between her teeth to tap the keys!

Hey Shea!
Glad to hear you're finally getting sorted

Hi there, AR1!!! It's so good to hear from you!
The surgery should make me inactive for about 2 weeks. My orthopedist said that if I need more time off from work, he'd certainly approve it. It all depends on a person's tolerance of pain, how much motion one gets back in their fingers, etc. I can take as much time as I need, which is wonderful. I'm sure I'll be fairly bored at the end of the 2 weeks, so I won't mind going back as much.
I am *not* ambidexterous ... unfortunately. I'm sure I could have avoided a lot of my problems if I could have switched hand while drawing.
I am very, very lucky that I have TJ to look after me! It's going to be difficult getting around with only one hand for a couple of weeks! I'm sure he'll enjoy washing my hair ...
Have a wonderful, wonderful time in France, and don't worry about anything except having a fabulous time!

And thanks to Clive, Mel, Gosho, Lady Scott, elwood, Serg , and Yankee-shoes! You guys are great!
I've been very lucky that I haven't had to get steroid injections, Mel ... or cortizone injections ... or any kind of injections! It's also good to hear that your mother's surgery turned out so well. It's a tough decision to make, and usually only made when it gets so bad that you can't imagine the surgery doing more damage!
Lady Scott might be right, elwood. I can post one-handed, and I'm sure I'll be bored enough with night-time television that I'll be on here occasionally.

I just had this thought - I was thankful that nighttime TV is so awful, since it means you'll be on here a lot more... If it was any good at all, we might not have a chance to talk to you during your recovery!
Yay for bad TV!

Shea
My brother had this surgery done well over a decade ago, and everything turned out just fine. He's had no troubles since.
May you be pain-free and back to perfect health in record time, Shea.

I guess I should stop watching so much bad TV. My Carpal Tunnel is only in my clicker thumb!
Glad to hear you'll still be with us during recovery. But as long as you're complementing TJ on how helpful he is, why doesn't he type for you on h2g2 for those weeks?

There was a gal I worked with, and she had the surgery and was back in the office a week later (I think it was too early - but she felt fine!)
Not that you need to rush back to the office so soon - just enjoy your time off!

Oh, I'm taking all the time they'll give me!
That is, if it happens at all. *sigh* The stupid Workers Comp Insurance Company is still dragging their feet on authorization. They have to, and they know the surgery is scheduled for next week, and I need to get the pre-surgical testing this week, but they aren't faxing the authorization to my doctor. They keep promising, but they're not doing it. The surgery will be a piece of cake after all the fighting just to get it done.
