That was bad phrasing, not ignorance, GD - my brother is a barrister! As far as I could tell from his days at Middle Temple, being called to the Bar mostly involved attending lots of posh dinners rather than undergoing any actual legal training!

PF - Yeah I know all about the dinners thing with barristers. Probably the only profession in the world where eating is an exam
My comment about the solictor/barrister thing was only so that our American friends don't get their a*ses sued off

I think it's reasonable to assume that if I ain't got it by now, I ain't never gettin' it! In fact I've already got the shopping cart and subway grate all picked out for my retirement!

Ripple is "wine" ... just about the cheapest you can buy ... the wine of choice for derelicts and bums (=UK tramps).

In the UK they drink extremely strong canned lager. Its typically brewed at around 9.5% alcohol. Or the cheapest ciders with a similar strength. None of them would buy wine as this has a tax of around £1.50 per bottle on it, making even the cheapest wine relatively expensive.

Then there's Thunderbird wine, and Buckfast. Ironically, Buckfast (the tipple of choice for so many winos) is a fortified wine made by the monks of Buckfast Abbey in Devon. They have a website you can check out.

Buckfast wine has some regional appeal. It is popular in Glasgow as a method of getting blotto when mixed with Tamazepam
