you arent missing much evil roy... i don't know why anyone wants to save her. she's so perky and domestic and rich, all she does is make average housewives feel inferior.

Even *I* know who Martha Stewart is! But then Israelis are all so Americanized it's amazing we still speak Hebrew.

Martha doesn't make *this* housewife feel guilty...
Mainly because I ignore her.
Seriously, I'd never have time to do any housewifely things (not to mention never having time to do any hootoo-ly things, and you know we *can't* have anything interfere with hootoo-ly things!) if I watched every program she was on, read every tip or hint she ever wrote and spent all my time scouring the local Kmarts for the stuff she thinks would make our lives ever so much more lovely and pleasant.

Martha Stewart would not need saving if it
weren't for her sale of 4,000 shares of ImClone
stock at the end of 2001. She sold just *after*
the Food and Drug Administration turned down
one of ImClone's products, and just *before*
the news of the FDA's action was made public.
Stewart was also a personal friend of Mr. Waksal,
ImClone's president. Did Stewart sell because
she had inside information from Mr. Waksal?
If so, she violated insider trading laws, and
might go to jail. Stewart maintains that she is
innocent. Non-Americans might have trouble
understanding insider trading laws because many
foreign countries do not have such laws.
So, this is not a judgment on Martha Stewart's
personality, or her houseware products, or her
daily television program, or the many books
and magazines that she writes/edits/supervises.
I think it would be sad to see her go to jail.
If you don't need her recipes or her handicrafts
projects or her quilts, etc., fine. But don't
send innocent people to jail.

The truth about whether she's innocent or guilty as charged will come out in the end...

Martha was a guest once on Julia Child's NPR cookery programme. What a contrast - old money and new; years of experience and a knack for knowing what will sell; plenty of substance with classic style and all style with no substance.
And all through it, Julia remained gracious and polite toward Martha. That's more than I could have done, but I guess Julia had a better upbringing than I. What a woman
To turn things around 180ยบ, I saw Julia on Emeril Live, and even though I dislike Emeril Lagasse as much as I do Martha Stewart, he showed so much respect for Julia.

I like Julia Child too, Gosho.
I wrote a humorous skit a few years ago,
in which Julia and Martha competed to see
who could top the other. At the end, there
was a pie fight, because it was network sweeps
week.
