Scenes

The shift of perspective in movies is amazing.

15 days.

Mere hours and I just sit here.

Couldn't sleep anyway.

Not now nor before.

Just like that.

It's beyond me ... even if it's before me.

Esbjerg

‘Esbjerg‘ I think. smiley - groan
It’s Friday, 29 March, 5:30 a.m. I topple from the pallet on which I spend a night not necessarily filled with sleep. 45 minutes till the train from Vienna reaches its destination. Make my way home from the station.
After skim-reading my e-mails, faxes and letters, noting down who called me about what and taking a brief glimpse at a week of h2g2 backlog, re-packing my gear and falling asleep at the kitchen table Bossel arrives. We have some pasta and are off to Esbjerg.
The roads are surprisingly empty and the trip goes well. We decide against detouring on the E 42 just for the sake of it. I wonder how this meet-up will be like compared to the London one.

We arrive at Dax’s. She said ‘ground floor’. Hmmm... is that the one a flight of steps up or a flight of steps down from the main door? After brief deliberations we decide that it might be the door with the “h2g2 Meet” sign on it. The food’s on the table and the smiley - ale is cold - perfect timing. smiley - winkeye
Once again getting along with strangers turns out to be easy... must be the mob attracted to h2g2. Laughter, puns and fun emerged quickly. Discussions free-floating and topic-drifting as usual. Words like “deja brew” and “tomatoes” keep cropping up. Dax provided the perfect settings for the meet up.
At some point we decide that it might be time to catch some sleep. Bossel, Pierce, Ottox and I stay in the guest rooms of one of the houses and a discussion ensues as to why all the pictures on the walls of the corridor show crying children.

Sleep at last.

Got up, had a shower trying not to be sucked through the fan. Breakfast reveals the meaning of “Gammeldansk”. The food excellent again. Off for a short walk which turns out to take us to the bus stop Marvin must have talked to, we continue to have a look at the fish and ships. We spot the number 42 several times.
Back at Dax’s waiting for KimotoCat begins. We finally try the “Let’s start to eat” trick which one again works. smiley - smiley
Bossel and I hand over our . The Meet-up really gets rolling and singing. KimotoCat and Dax organised party games and after little pieces of chocolate are spread between the attending researchers chats and conversations continue. smiley - weirdness levels increase. They reached their high point early Sunday afternoon... approximately. Ok, well. That depends... perhaps. Maybe, but who could say for sure?
Soon, too soon, everybody’s off again, migrating home. Bossel has the stamina to drive all the way back to my place where he and €ngländer crash for the night. Imagine the three of us in front of this computer, each trying to get his h2g2 fix for the night... smiley - laugh

We decide that Monday morning constitutes a mini-meet. Espresso rules supreme. Again too soon both head off towards the south, back to their respective homes.

I must say that I quite like the idea of small meet-ups (... though... the reaction of the staff at the pub where we met before the photo scavenger hunt in London was worth to be seen... smiley - winkeye). They provide the opportunity to talk to a number of researchers for a longer time. One of the best Easter celebrations I had in a long time. ‘Twas nice meeting all of you! smiley - smiley

Thanks for having us all, Dax! smiley - hug
