I'm worried about this story. She's now stated no affair ever happened, but winked while she said this. The original story wasn't published in 2011 over possible reliability concerns.
If it turns out that this story is fabricated, this will be a huge validation of the conservative narrative that the Main Stream Media (MSM) are liberally biased and publishing fake news. This will hurt every news source that reported on this story regardless if they knowingly published anything false or not.

The old "National Lampoon" is prominent in the 'fake news' front.
So is Pasadena, CA's "Suicide Club".
So is the Liberty Lobby and the Weather Underground.
Closely associated unreliable sources who never seem pleased with themselves unless they've made a fraud somehow.

Baron Grim Posted Feb 1, 2018
Could you elaborate?
I don't see the association with these groups, especially the "Suicide Club", aka Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

ITIWBS Posted Feb 1, 2018
The "Suicide Club", the outfit behind the April 1st 2010 computer attacks?
(Google became 'Topeka'.
Topeka, Kansas, became 'Google'.
Besides this they also made attacks on the UK parliamentry system, the IRS and shut down the DOD's AKO system.)

The other Suicide Club is more fun and interesting.

The Suicide Club actually goes back to at least the 1890s and predates the founding of CalTech.
During the pre-WW II years they were linked to Aleister Crowley's ODO organization operated out of Crowley's Temple Thelema operation in Sicily, but were later expelled from Crowley's organization.
Crowley considered them excessively rash and careless.

Yes, but you specified Pasadena's Suicide Club.
If IT don't kill you, you ain't lived ?
ITIWBS Posted Feb 1, 2018
CalTech's Suicide Club is a branch organization of the larger Suicide Club organization out of Pasadena and is not an official institution of CalTech any more than of Pasadena, which are merely important locales of their operations.
On space flight and rocketry trivia, the Suicide Club moved a lot of that to their Mira Loma, CA facility during the 1960s.
Crowley trivia, Crowley began writing notes on quantum theory in his diary during a period when CalTech's founder was staying as a guest at Crowley's Temple Thelema.

There was a debate underway at the national level in Congress on aerospace funding during the height of the fake news flurry that immediately followed the most recent American national elections.
The fake news grandstanding stopped abruptly when the final vote was taken and the budget was passed.

You left out The Onion.

National Lampoon and The Onion and other genuine satirical sites are on the other end of the spectrum from true fake news websites. The real fake news websites use "satire" as a cover for both clickbait and propaganda.
It's true that The Onion's stories are often mistaken for valid stories and spread by other sites, but they're not actively trying to fool people. They only fool those without a sense of humor, satire, or irony... the credulous.

Speaking of onions, we had a comedian wo ran for office as a joke, but shocked everybody - himself included - by actually being elected into parliament.
One of his slogans was: "People without a sense of humour should immediately be granted invalidity pension".
He also promised more tailwind on cycle paths

Oh yes, on fake news, a part of it originated with CM News out of Taiwan, inaugurating a new international news service.
They were, coincidentally, still fine tuning their relevance, audience acceptance and censorship filters during the period the 'fake news' peaked.
