Ooo, I shall look forwrad to seeing some pictures, I have never seen a gecko in the wild. I loved Spain though which had so many lizards, they are gorgeous things.

Could they help you swim with the dolphins as well, I have heard all sorts of lovely stories of how much they help.

Still I hope you have a great time and get some sleep tonight!

Take care smiley - hugsmiley - magic

Hi, Smurfles,

Camomile tea will calm you down - acquired taste but works well. You will be fine as soon as you get on the plane. It is all the hanging about that does it.

Bon Voyagesmiley - goodluck "see" you when you get back. Hope you can bring us some good tales about wildlife.

Oh, and the badger was early again last night and very hungry. We thought he would be busy looking for worms first, after all the rain, and certainly the lawn has quite a few holes this morning!

Hi websailor.I have never really taken much notice of the lawn, until we had it re-turfed at this time last year.Since you started mentioning it i have paid more attention, and today it is full of little holes!!!!I've noticed the birds spend more time there than on the bird table some days as well.
Thanks for tip about the smiley - tea,i can see me sending hubby out for some before we get half way through the evening!!!smiley - smiley
"See you soon,i
ll have to read up on how to put pictures on my space,or i'll be e-mailing for ages!!!
Maybe the badger is geting ready for a good long sleep...i do hope he remembers where he's been well fed and cared for when he wakes up!!!smiley - hug

Oh, so do I, Smurfles,

I shall be heartbroken if anything happens to themsmiley - wah, or they forget. Apparently they do come back so we shall have to see.

They don't really have to negotiate roads to get to me so I am hopeful. That seems to be one of the greatest hazards for them.

I hope your badgers keep safe Websailor.

Smurfles I have heard of groups who help those who can't swim or are disabled get close to the dolphins as well. Anyway, enjoy your holiday whatever you do. Just getting away is often all you need to enjoy yourself, once you have caught up on sleep anyway! smiley - hug

Hi Folkssmiley - biggrin, Just to let you know that we got our new car last week and its crackersmiley - cool Its nippy and runs really quiet as well, and Mk2 just loves the air-con, instead of driving with the windows open all the time blasting us with wind let alone the noisesmiley - erm

Its a seven seater, but I don't think we will ever use them all, we just got the large version sp we coulds get her scooter in the back and still have room for 3 passengers! I just love it, as its great to drive as wellsmiley - oksmiley - winkeye

Hi, Smudger,

Glad you are pleased with your new car. I am sure you will find plenty to fill the extra seats, I know I would.

I have just watched Ray Mears' Bushcraft on BBC2, all about the seasons in the UK, and a lovely piece watching badgers and looking at badger sign. So I'm off fto buy a bag of sand in the weeksmiley - smiley

I really want to know if the badger is coming into my garden the way I think he is. He should leave tracks in the sand smiley - somersault I need to know in case my neighbour decides to put a new piece of fence between us, where there is a big gap at present. I don't think that is where he comes in, as there are several ways in, and a distinct badger shaped hole, but I need to be sure.

I don't want him to be prevented from coming in, and I wouldn't want to see the neighbours new fence panel broken down, which is apparently quite likely, if brock takes the huffsmiley - rofl

Hi, Animal,

A lot of birds are moulting and getting their winter feathers. They skulk out of sight during this time, as they don't fly so good with dodgy featherssmiley - wah

My garden is very quiet too, except for short periods when the great tits and smiley - tit, greenfinches and chaffinches descend, but things will soon liven up. I have seen the odd willow tit, one goldfinch etc. but it really is dull with so few birds around. I miss them now.

They have started to sing a little bit, which is nice to hear in the morning, but I really miss my blackbirds "tutting" at me for their raisins.

I really must be careful what I wish for. Last night I said to PHM " I wish the other badger would come as well" and 10 minutes later there he/she was! They must be from the same sett as they seem unconcerned with each other, but the second one definitely "kow tows" to the first one.

Almost every bird I have wished for has turned up and PHM is giving me funny lookssmiley - rofl I think he thinks he's married to a smiley - witch I din't quite manage to conjure up a Waxwing when they were all here back in the spring/summer, and I haven't seen a Gren Woodpecker yet, but everything else has turned up. Very strange.

I feel as if I have a "connection" with the badgers, as I seem to sense if they are going to be early or late, and whether there will be one or two.

Mowed the lawn today and nearly fell down one of the holes, which was deeper than usual, so I shall have to watch my step.

I got my Operation Migration Newsletter today and found myself mentioned in it, which was quite a shock. To think my words have circulated throughout Canada, the US and probably other countries too is a very strange feeling.

Watched a programme tonight about bird flu which was a bit disturbing.

Hope you are well and that your birds come back soon. Badger is here must smiley - run.........

smiley - cheers

Ah! so you also found a hole in your grass the WSsmiley - erm The exact thing that happened to me today as wellsmiley - laugh
I had to cut our back grass today, as the bloke who used to do it for us had packed it insmiley - erm I only found that out today when I saw him!

So I had to bash on myself, if I had waited for Mk2s sons to do it, it would be 6 feet highsmiley - laugh
Anyway, while I was cutting away, I came to what used to be a small dip, but when I stepped on it, I almost disappearedsmiley - laugh

Me thinks, that there is a mole on the lose in our gardensmiley - laughsmiley - winkeye

I have been writing about bird flu in my science column for some time now, its not looking good.

Oh well, but then most news never does!

Be careful of holes, they are bad news for bad backs.

Smudger,

I know what you mean. Without my computer, the birds and the badgers I would go stir crazy. My other half complains about how much time I spend on the computer toosmiley - sadface

It is my escape when he is watching sport on the TV as he doesn't even notice my existence, and I mean every smiley - bleep sport smiley - grr I also use it for lots of other things too. The Web is ten times more interesting than TV most of the time, and it keeps the brain and fingers active, which has to be good.

I have email addresses for several of the regular hootooers, but not yours. If you feel inclined to put one up, coded of course, or on your PS, perhaps we can have an off message moan to each other occasionally during the dark days of winter.

If you want something to follow on the Net try Operation Migration's Field Journal. They are training the young Whooping Cranes to fly with microlights, and there are regular reports of their activities, some photos, etc.

When the migration to Florida starts, some time in mid- October, we get almost daily reports of their progress. It is so interesting, and carries through till nearly Xmas, by which time they hope to have the Cranes settled in Florida, and the humans can go home to their families. They won't have seen them for 4 months or more!

Just put Operation Migration into Google and take a look. You might enjoy it.

We have just had a fox in the garden, and I am now waiting to hear the badger(s) arrive. We think one sneaked in early last night and pinched all the food before the regular one got there, so tonight might be interesting smiley - rofl

Don't forget what I said about the email, unless you think MarkII would not like it smiley - smiley

Hello Websailor smiley - hug
At last I make it onto your journal thread smiley - smiley Thanks to a computer in the office that I'm working in smiley - oksmiley - biggrin

On the way home last night a flock of spoonbills flew over the car and this morning I almost hit a black cockatoo which came out of a tree alongside me smiley - yikes

I love the birdlife here. Unfortunately my Aussie birdbook is in Sydney in my suitcase of other belongings. I must arrange to go down and collect it in the next few weeks. Anyhow, there are several birds which hang around the trees by my balcony which I haven't identified yet.

In the mornings I'm woken by whip birds calling, followed by the kookaburras.

Surprisingly few mammals/marsupials around smiley - erm No snakes here yet. Skinks slink around the balcony most of the time - lovely things. No gekkos in the flat smiley - sadface I really love gekkos - their 'tuttututtut' as they face up to each other reminds me of Cooktown smiley - smiley

I'm so out of touch that I don't know where smurfles has gone on hols smiley - yikessmiley - doh

Later....

Hi Folkssmiley - biggrin, Hope you are all wellsmiley - ok
WS how do I put up my Email addy coded? I remember giving to it to Abbi but I forgot how I did itsmiley - erm
I use 2 addresses, one for on line use which catches all the spam & junk, and the other for mates as only they have it, that way it never gets clogged up with junk!smiley - cool

We managed to get out for a while today, which was smiley - magic as it gave a chance to drive our new carsmiley - cool! Then we got Mk2 one of those electric scooters from the mobility centre, you can get free use of them there which is smiley - cool
but once she scoots off, I have a hard time keeping up with hersmiley - laugh I wont use one just now, as there will come a time when I will HAVE to, so till then I will stroll around with my sticksmiley - laugh

Not much wildlife to report form the shopping centre, just a couple of really weird looking junkies, who looked like they came form another planetsmiley - laugh They were begging folk for moneysmiley - sadface (to get their next fix) Catch you all soonsmiley - coolsmiley - winkeye

I don't get the need for codes?
[email protected]
works well enough, they don't get moderated anymore and you can always put it on your front page so it becomes clickable. Have I missed something?
