Another Dog Problem

He just had a bath a couple of weeks ago and he is still pretty clean. Except on our walk tonight he rolled in something and while he still looks clean enough the little butthead stinks. I do not want to have to give him a bath tonight so I guess I'll have to make him sleep far away from me. He is already sulking now because I won't pet him. he got to run off leash in the alleys tonight because we went out late and I didn't want to stay out that long and didn't want to bother with the boots he's have to wear if he had to walk at my speed. As it was his feet got cold if he stopped running as he did when he rolled in the thing. The thing was a dead thing that which was in the alley in a plastic zip-lock bag. I couldn't see what it was because it was crusted with ice and I didn't want to look at it that close. Unfortunately it was not frozen enough to not impart odor to a dog determined to enjoy the odor. I think he ate another dead thing. I hope he doesn't throw up too.

Back on Earth

Well Minnesota anyways. It has been a difficult adjustment it seems. First I was so tired I slept for like 18 hours. Then the next couple of days I couldn't sleep. Now I am very sleepy and I have to get up earlyish but I decided to visit h2g2 instead. I've been unusually anxious and uncomfortable this week. Like there is something wrong but I don't know what. I had a little liquour two nights ago and felt even weirder. I wake up in the middle of the night feeling anxious and wierd. Can't fall asleep because I'm cold. Wake up because I'm hot. I changed the sheets hoping that would help but haven't slept well in the two nights since. I think I'll sleep tonight. I had some of that mulled wine and got a little drunk and tired but didn't feel wierd at least. Plus it is flippin cold here so I'm not getting out as much as usual. Taking shorter walks and such.

The Real OC

I'm visiting my parents in Orange. The cold is almost gone. Well it is gone but I'm stuffed up from the dust that was kicked up when I cut down the vine on the side of their house. It had fallen over in the wind last week I guess. I discovered it when the pool guy couldn't get past it to do whatever he does with the pool. What a mess. The vine was overgrown and it pulled down the trellis which was rotting anyways. I had to buy a machete to cut the vine back.

The neighbor came to talk to me while I was doing it. He has been cutting the vine back on his side and using Round-up on it. He says my parents never trimmed it, which was obvious. I said I would make sure they had it trimmed more often if it grew back after I cut it back. He said "that's ok, I don't mind". He said his family is from Minnesota. I don't know if he himself has ever been to Minnesota but the complaining about the overgrowth to me then saying that's OK, he doesn't mind is completely Minnesota right out of Lake Woebegone.

It is hot and windy here today. I have to finish clearing the side of the house and help dispose of a dead orange tree.

My mother is loosing her eyesight. She functions like Mr. Magoo but it is not at all funny. We don't have a sense of humor in our family anyways so even if it was funny it wouldn't be funny. We are trying to get her to stop driving but noone will tell her directly that she can no longer drive. My dad wants to move to a "Home". Mom refuses. I don't know how much longer they can stay here. My brother wants me to move out here to live with them and drive them around and help in other ways. I think that would put me in the psych ward but I am considering it.

More Physical Complaints

Warning; pitiful whining ahead.

Now I am in the third day of Cold #1 of 2004. It is foul and unpleasant. I want to know who gave this to me. I really haven't left the house much or seen many people before I got this and none of the people I was associating with had a cold when I was with them. It is very cold outside here. I took the dog for a long walk on monday night when it was about 3 below 0*F. Sorry I don't know what the Celsius conversion for that is - maybe -18 or something? But believe me it's cold. Late that night I started to feel this coming on first in my ears. I know that exposure to cold does not cause colds and that this is a coincidence. I really was well covered anyways. The dog even had a jacket and boots. He hasn't had a decent walk since and is becomming antsy.

So now I have a headache and a sore throat. Swallowing hurts, talking hurts. My nose is starting to clog up. The post nasal drip is starting. My brain is not entirely functional even though I have not taken antihistimines yet today. I have to make a phone call at 15:00 afterwhich I will probably take a comprehensive cold medicine which will put me to sleep for several hours. Well maybe I'll wait till after 4:30. At 4 I'll drive Shel over to where the dog play group meets and hope other dogs show up so Shel can at least get some running in. Then I'll take the medication and pass out for the night.

You will be happy to know that the gum infection is almost entirely cleared up.

Decay

I have a toothache. I had an appointment a few weeks ago to have this filling repaired, but I overslept and didn't go to it. Now the tooth hurts. I think it does anyways. I believe that it is a tooth that has had a root canal done on it so it shouldn't have any nerve in it anymore, right? But something over there sort of hurts when I bite down. But if there is no nerve anymore there shouldn't be any harm in waiting to have the filling fixed, right? I mean how much more could happen? The dentist who did the root canal did say when he did it that I would probably have to go back to have a crown put on it because the filling wouldn't hold up. It's held up fine so far. It does need to be repaired now but it is not the filling that is supposed to fall apart it is the tooth itself because it falls apart after the nerve is removed. But the tooth itself seems fine. The filling just needs to be fixed. So why does it hurt? What is hurting about it?

Did I mention that I no longer have Dental coverage? Tim Pawlenty and the Minnesota State Legislature have determined that people who are very poor but not desparately poor do not need Dental coverage nor do we need teeth. This coverage was cancelled on October 1 just days before a student at the University of Minnesota Dental school and her instructor told me that I probably needed a root canal on another tooth. I did not get the root canal as the procedure would have cost me $1000 or so. The U of M was not going to cooperate and just give me a root canal and a filling. Rather they were going to insist that I needed to have a crown done immediately thus the even more outrageous expense.

Around that time I spoke to my mother on the phone. She helpfully told me that I was on my way to loosing all my teeth just like she did (when she was much younger than my current age...) She said I'd better get the root canal anyways. I'd been on antibiotics and the pain had stopped. She said the infection would come back in a couple of weeks. I ignored this advice. I decided to continue the antibiotics and see what happens. The pain in that particular tooth went away and has not come back. Well it did flare up a tiny bit once but nothing came of it.

But regarding my current tooth pain, it is a different tooth. One that has already had a root canal so why would it hurt? It only hurts when I bite down on it. But I know it's there so I bite down on it just to see if it still hurts. It does. Better call the dentist back tomorrow, huh.
