Suggested objectives:

The thief: intends, when they land at Carracas, to melt down the walnut. Not for money, just for the hell of it. That's the kind of person they are.

The owner of the Walnut: Either (A) get it back because it was left to them by a great uncle who invented a treatment for hair-loss and was given the walnut by the greatful, but very gullible, wandering bald of Nohab. Or (b) re-check their insurance policy for small print.

One of the characters secretly loves another, and has a drawer full of lovingly made pencil sketches, all done in secret over long periods of time. I.e. one day, they manage to draw one line, very quickly, when no one is looking during lunch.

Another character is anxious to prove themselves during the voyage, in order to win a promotion they feel was cruelly robbed from them by another character, who clearly has lesser ability. The job in question is something very mundane, like being responsible for all the lightbulbs on board.

Another character just wants to watch t.v. and be left alone.

And personally, I would add a discreet but highly intelligent sleuthing Guinea Pig, who aims to solve the walnut mystery.

Prez HS (All seems relatively quiet here)

So...

We have a walnut, stolen from a hair-regrowth wholesaler, stolen by a hairbrained crook with a fetish for molten gold... well the fetish just entered my mind while reading. What if there's a gold fetish bar in Caracas? Thief could go there to show his trophy, setting the scene for the unraveling. Guinee McPigg (played by Travis Shure)
will go after the thief, while receiving sudden precognitions from the deceased captain of the ship, of whose demise no one knows yet (remember), not even McPigg so the suspense is added because no one knows where these sudden messages from beyond the grave are coming from...

Perhaps the golden walnut is VooDoo! Then the perky children, on a lead from the atmospheric gypsy fortune teller hunt down the walnut that accidentally revived the captain as a zombie and riencarnated the girl as a lobster whose fiance is trying to save her from the cook!

I also have Great News! Wednesday I went to the Marc Maron booksigning at the Astor Place, Manhattan, Ney York Barnes and Nobel. He signed my book "Morgan - This is our first book signing - Marc Maron" because he had never done a reading before and I had never attended one. Just before it started, I SAW JANEANE GARAFALO! I SAW JANEANE GARAFALO! I SAW JANEANE GARAFALO! *doing the "I saw Janeane Garafalo" dance*
