Good question – there's occasional operetta/classical compilations rather than complete classical albums.

I think I’ve spotted that soundtrack album now -1985?

SashaQ - happysad Posted Mar 12, 2019
Yay! I got a point!
I'm not well up on albums, either, because I might hear a single on the radio, but I don't often know about the album that contains it or is contemporary with it...
I'm keeping an eye on this thread, though, as I hope to score more at some point

Yesterday's missing soundtrack album was 'Backbeat' (A67794510). So any guesses for albums beginning with B after 'Band on the Run'? Other albums already picked are 'Bat Out of Hell' and 'Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell'. There's some quite obvious ones for me coming up now.

Icy North Posted Mar 13, 2019
I was convinced it would be Back to the Future - Huey Lewis, The Power of Love and all that.
I’ll try for some beginning with BE:
Beatles for Sale
Beatles Ballads
(The) Beatles - white album
Ben - Michael Jackson
Best of the Beach Boys
Bad Bat's Back
Bluebottle Posted Mar 14, 2019
I thought I replied to this earlier but it doesn't seem to have posted.
Yesterday's missed albums were:
Basement Tapes, The - Bob Dylan and the Band
Basic: Original Hits - Manfred Mann
Today's albums all have a common theme, and Icy has found two of them:
Beatles for Sale
Beatles Ballads
Beatles, The 'The White Album'
Ben - Michael Jackson
Best of the Beach Boys
So Icy is now on 30, Sasha close behind on 1.

Bad Bat's Back
Icy North Posted Mar 14, 2019
I can’t think of too many more B’s, but to help others, maybe, do you have a few ‘best of’ albums in the list?
Bad Bat's Back
Bluebottle Posted Mar 15, 2019
There are indeed 13 'Best ofs' (and opportunities for bonus points). And there are three more albums that relate to the two you guessed yesterday, plus two albums between what links the albums you guessed yesterday and the 'Best Ofs'.
I'll give points to albums that are 'Best Ofs' in all but name (ie, called 'Greatest Hits', 'The Very Best of' etc.)
After the Best Ofs there is an album that Sasha knows I own.

Bad Bat's Back
SashaQ - happysad Posted Mar 15, 2019
Ooo - pressure... I was struggling to think of albums beginning with B, but I shall think harder...
Beatles at the BBC
Beatles Live at the Hollywood Bowl
Beatles Live at the Star Club
Beatles Second Album
Best of The Kinks
Bad Bat's Back
Bluebottle Posted Mar 15, 2019
Icy:
Blondie – 'Greatest Hits: Sound and Vision'
Eagles
OMD
REM – 'In Time: The Best of REM 1988-2003'
The Doors - 'The Doors'
(You didn't get points for Beach Boys because I've already mentioned the one Greatest Hits compilation of theirs I own, '20 Golden Greats'
Sasha:
Beatles at the BBC
Beatles Live at the Hollywood Bowl
Beatles Live at the Star Club
Beatles Second Album, The
Best of The Kinks – I've two, 'Sunny Afternoon: The Very Best of the Kinks' and 'You Really Got Me: The Best of the Kinks'.
(I can't help but suspect that the more pedantic I am, the less likely anyone will be to play. So although technically the albums are called 'Live at the BBC' and 'Live at the Hollywood Bowl', I'll give you a point for each of them. I'm not giving you a point for 'Beatles Live at the Star Club', though, 'cos I've already mentioned it under the title '1962 Live at the Star Club in Hamburg'.)
Icy: 33
Sasha: 8

I love the Kinks - good spot
The trouble with picking Best Of albums is that you would only buy ones where you weren’t going to buy all the other albums, so they won’t be your favourite bands, necessarily. I picked 5 that stuck in my mind, where I can visualise flipping though them at second hand record shops or car boot sales. I’m frankly amazed I matched with 3.
So what are we guessing next (I’m bored of B’s )
Bad Bat's Back
Bluebottle Posted Mar 15, 2019
We're still on 'Be' so that leaves 'Bf' – 'Bz' yet to go before we reach 'C'. Although in practice it is 'Bl – Br'…

Bad Bat's Back
SashaQ - happysad Posted Mar 15, 2019
More points! Yay!
I'm particularly pleased about the bonus point - I love the Kinks, too, although I only have individual songs rather than albums, and now I am intrigued by the similarities and differences between 'Best of' and 'Very Best of'
Very kind of you to give me points for getting the right albums in the wrong place Educational about the technical names
So we're still looking for 8 more Best ofs and about 20 other Bs, and Blue Album isn't one of them because that was in the numbers as well... Hmm...
Aha! I will bag Bohemian Rhapsody (soundtrack) now so as not to lose it later on, and I will also have a go at:
Barenaked for the Holidays
Greatest Hits I - Queen
Greatest Hits II - Queen
Greatest Hits III - Queen
Simply the Best
Bluebottle Posted Mar 18, 2019
I'm afraid I didn't see one of Sasha's earlier posts, so including the album I missed ('Beatles Oldies'):
Beatles Oldies? – 'A Collection of Beatles Oldies'
Bohemian Rhapsody (soundtrack)
Greatest Hits I - Queen
Greatest Hits II - Queen
Greatest Hits III – Queen
Also, there's one album that I own but wasn't including in my current 'listen to every album' list, 'cos it is a Christmas album. And Sasha correctly identified it, so bonus points there.
Barenaked for the Holidays
If you keep guessing correctly I'll start worrying that you've broken in and rummaged through or my music collection – or is there a photo showing my music collection on ?
And missed albums were:
Beatles '65
Beatles VI
Beatles Featuring Tony Sheridan
Beauty and the Beast (soundtrack)
Beethoven Originals
Before the Flood – Bob Dylan and the Band
Icy: 33
Sasha: 18

Simply the Best
Bluebottle Posted Mar 18, 2019
There are 20 songs on the Best of the Kinks and 48 tracks (including interviews) on the Very Best of the Kinks. There are 11 songs on both albums, nine on the Best of but not the Very Best and 26 that are the Very Best of the Kinks but not their Best. And personal favourites such as 'The Village Green Preservation Society' are apparently neither their best nor very best.

Simply the Best
Icy North Posted Mar 18, 2019
The Kinks wrote so many incredible songs and had so many single hits that ones like TVGPS get ignored, you’re right. I like ‘Shangri-La’, which is rarely played.
Simply the Best
SashaQ - happysad Posted Mar 18, 2019
Yay! More points!
"If you keep guessing correctly I'll start worrying that you've broken in and rummaged through or my music collection – or is there a photo showing my music collection on ?"
I thought harder, and recalled which Queen albums you have
I also searched h2g2 to see which Beatles albums you'd written about
While I was doing that I happened to find a conversation in which you mentioned Barenaked Ladies! I wondered if a Christmas album would be in this list, but that makes sense that you save them for later
Simply the Best
Bluebottle Posted Mar 19, 2019
Icy, I'm afraid that 'Shangri-La' is another Kinks song that is neither Best nor Very Best. Have you seen Dave Gorman discussing Greatest Hits albums on 'Modern Life is Goodish'?
