My first foray into your page....and I must say I'm impressed! I enjoyed the visit very much!
I take it from the map at the top, you're from Australia. I've always wanted to visit there. Very interesting country!
Liked your Article on Blade, as well! I hope they do a movie sequel on it soon.....though I must admit I'm a Spidy fan myself! As a matter of fact, Spidy is the basis for my e-mail address.....I'll tell you about that, someday!
Must run, now....too many things to do, and Monsy will be home soon.....at which time I must relinquish the contols of this machine!
Must say, at least now I know where to "nick" a neat smilie!!

Hi Fairly Strange - no, I'm not from Australia - the map is of the Isle of Wight, which is about 5 miles south of Southampton and Portsmouth, United Kingdom... I've never been accused of being Australian before - but I can say "G'dday mate!" if you'd like....
As for the smileys - I'm in an unofficial competition with my house-mate Peregrin, to see who can do the best smileys, and so far he's done more than me - but he has his own computer, and wants to be a graphic designer, so has a slight advantage... I don't think I've done too badly though.
Well, hope to see you around a lot,
<BB<

So much for my geography!!!! With no reference points, and I didn't see the writing in the map before, it looked like Australia! Opps, sorry! Realised my mistake back on my page when you said you were going to Southampton!
Keep building the smilies, and we will come!

Okay will do - and frankly, I've no idea where most of the H2G2 researchers are from anyway! I don't even know my way around the UK that well - but my Isle of Wight geography's brilliant!
So, if you had to draw a smilie, what would it be - and could I nick the idea?
Hello, Bluebottle!
FairlyStrange Posted Mar 1, 2000
Most Researchers I've run into are from the UK....Britain and that area. The ones I know best are from Britain, Wales, Holland, Autralia, New Zealand, Canada and the US. WE do have some from Germany and Italy......no telling where else!
When I started here, It wasn't impossible to make contact with everyone on site....now, with over 30,000 Researchers, it's not a realistic probability!....yeah...mixed emotions on that!
Smilies...can you make a car tire or a guitar? Either would be great fun!....And "nick" anything you like. I never put anything in here I consider personal property!

Look - I doubt you started that much before I did - I've been here almost 40 weeks, and yes, I know what you mean. It was a lot easier then - but the guide has had quite a few improvements made since!
As for smiley tyres and guitars - good ideas, but I don't know if the detail would come out on such a small scale... The guitar is a great idea, though...

Sorry, Bluebottle......oddly enough, according to records, you beat me by a week! I didn't realise you had been here that long. Guess you couldn't get to everybody then, after all!
True....you could pretty much stay abreast of everything.....not possible now. That's good and bad. Good for the site...bad for it's propensity to form "cliques". Unavoidable, I suppose.
Detail...shmetail....just make 'em bigger!

You were here a week after me? I thought your number was lower though... Oh well... But then, I was only on for about a week before I was forced to leave as I have no computer of my own, University was over, and I could not H2G2 again until September when I'd returned to Uni and the computers here. That's probably whey we didn't meet then.
We just passed each other by.
I know what you mean about cliques, though. Mine is probably my beach, although I'm trying to say "hi" to more and more people now!

# is 40399.....saw yours earlier, but wasn't paying attention.... doesn't really matter. We've both been here a long time! Your absence is understandable......
Know well how you can get caught up in a corner. I go visit from time to time, but I have so many irons in the fire, it's hard to focus on a new forum.
I'd love to get to know everyone here.....(they might not wish that on themselves!), but I'm afraid my time is limited. I wonder about Teaserman......every time I see him come up, all I can think of is Don Quixote!

So, let's exchange parts of the Guide to visit then! I seem to visit my Waterworks & Beach, Menza's Forum & Firkin, TV Frink's Frinks Drinks, The Church Of The True Brownie, Irving Washington's Aroma Cafe, and various other places that H2G2 takes me. Where do you go?
As for Teaserman - well, each time I see him, I think "Beep beep", but that's another story...

I appologise for being slow to answer that.....but I had to think about it!
I'd love to say I'm a "social animal"....but I'm not. The trouble is, I am the same here as I am in real life.....I tend not to scurry about, checking out the "watering holes".
I started, quite some time ago, with Frinks' softball team, but I must admit, I haven't been there in a while. At present, I visit TCotTB. I joined "The Quest" at it's beginning, but have not had time to raise havoc there since(as was my intention!....I have been enjoying *your* escapades there, though!)
I enjoy stabbing in a comment at The Blackfield Church Group from time to time(had I ever really been there, which I couldn't have, 'cause everyone who hasn't been there catagorically denies it's existance!)
Most of the time I spend answering forums I've been in. Tonight I'm in 20. Most are "Newbies", so I feel I must check to see if there is anything they want, or need to know. In an effort to get to know them, I sometimes get sidetracked to personal webpages and such....so it can be rather time consuming.....but quite interesting!
I've run across some very interesting personal sites that I wish I had "nicked". I have just started posting them to my page, but there are so many I remember seeing in my explorations past, that I can no longer recal who they were.....such a shame! They made for some great reading!
I have also been in Madmunks Temple....which, at the moment, is at idle due to his absence. I made an attempt to check out Joannas' Donut Stall......but entry is all I've made, so far! Looks fun!
There are more, I'm sure. And lots of places I visit, I don't post to. No one visits my User Page often, but that doesn't worry me. Not much to see there, and so much to see out in "The Field"! I know how that is, 'cause that's where I stay!

Well, it's good to know that we've been to some of the same places. When I first arrived, I mainly entered a lot of the conversations related to Douglas Adams (then new) entry on Tea.
As for me - I'd like to welcome more people and look up more entries, but it seems that more and more of my time is taken up just by replying to forum postings. I've made far too many for my own good, I fear!
Hello, Bluebottle!
FairlyStrange Posted Mar 3, 2000
I know that feeling!....Actually, I don't mind it. I usually find a little time to relax in here on occasion. That's when I get to check the Front Page, and try to catch up to where my favorite forum has gone off to(it's usually moved a time or two by then!)
But I do get to meet some interesting people, and being inherently shy...it's a nice change for me. I tend to be a bit more open with this machine to hide behind....odd, some tell me that's not a good thing. Security risks and all.
I figure if a hacker or thief wants me ...it's not hard to track my info, no matter how hard I try to prevent it. That's why, if you want to know anything about me, just bring up a "profile" on me. There are no blank spaces. I figure it helps take the "challenge" out of a security attack.
Now how did I get on that subject!?
NM
Hello, Bluebottle!
Bluebottle Posted Mar 3, 2000
Well, it's good, but when forums go off subject and then start haunting you 30 weeks after you decided to ignore them, then you regret a posting or two!
And I usually keep up with where all my favourites are - most of the ones I don't check regularly I don't care about that much anyway.
As for the meeting thing idea - of course you are more open - H2G2 is risk free. In real life, people can hurt and attack you, the worst that can happen here is someone could write:
"I don't like you "
which doesn't upset as much. (It still would). If they went any further and swore and wrote abuse etc, chances are they'd be asked to leave. And people don't know anything about you apart from what you want them to know about you (or what Monsy wants them to know about you ) So it is, essentially, risk free.
As for hackers - now I think you're being paranoid
<BB<
Hello, Bluebottle!
FairlyStrange Posted Mar 3, 2000
Paranoid? I must say I'm far from it!
If you look on any profile of me, you'll find anything you want to know about me....right down to my home phone number.(if a space is provided for it!)
I'm not worried about it....I don't have anything they want, anyway!LOL

Hello Shazz - still getting into every conversation I see
And Fairly Strange - I doubt that many people are that fussed about your details unless they were your friends.. Although every web thing seems to want to...
Hello, Bluebottle!
FairlyStrange Posted Mar 5, 2000
Every website wants all your details so they can SPAM the H**L out of you at their first opportunity! I have a button that says "delete". It works VERY well!
And Shazz......welcome in! Are you keeping track of BB or me!?

You know Shazz - she keeps track of everyone!
And yes - the "Delete" button - saviour of sanity everywhere!
