My osteoarthritic spine hurts and I'm getting related cramps in the trapezius the missing right flange of my 1st lumbar vertebra hurts even more than that, as do the tendonitis problems in my shoulders.
Sitting up, standing, or moving about, in that order of increasing pain, make it even worse, so I've got all the excuses I could possibly want for procradtinating.

The big toe on my right foot is sore now, so I'm taking ibuprofen for it. There's a little redness, but not much sign of swelling, so it's not acute.

Sounds like gout, paulh. I recommend etodolac instead of ibuprofen. Easier on your stomach in my experience. Ask your

You may have a point, Pierce, but:
1. Ibuprofen can be obtained, 40 capsules per bottle, fo0r one dollar at the Dollar Store. Lodine is something I've never seen as an over the-counter medication. Chances are, if I got my doctor to prescribe it, whatever amount I got would cost ten dollars, and by the time I got the appointment scheduled and medication procured, my pain could be gone thanks to rest and Ibuprofen.
2. Lodine/etodolac carries increased risk of cardiac events, and can also cause ulcers and stomach bleeding.
3. Gout has never been proven in my case. Do I want a definitive diagnosis or an easing of my pain? I'll take the latter, which I'm confident about now.

Gout is easy.
One simply goes on a vegan diet until symptoms cease, then stick to white meat when and if one resumes meat eating, except if one has wounds or injuries to heal, in which case red meat is again indicated.
Any way, that works for me, though there have been some problems with urea fed chickens in recent years.

This evening has been a strange one, the DOG's (GODBLESS'UM) have been farting once again and i was down the pub, which was nice! it was full of tourists (mostly americans) which was great fun, they always makes me laugh, they just don't get drinking to oblivion which is what most of us brits do, cider and gin

"One simply goes on a vegan diet until symptoms cease, then stick to white meat when and if one resumes meat eating" [ITIWBS]
"Foods to limit (very high in purines):
*Organ meats, such as liver, kidneys, sweetbreads, and brains
•Meats, including bacon, beef, pork, and lamb
•Game meats
•Any other meats in large amounts
•Anchovies, sardines, herring, mackerel, and scallops
•Gravy
•Beer
Foods to eat occasionally (moderately high in purines, but may not raise your risk of gout):
•Fish and seafood (other than high purine seafood)
•Oatmeal, wheat bran, and wheat germ"
Since I've been eating very little from the above lists, how would eliminating the remaining items affect my symptoms? Granted, I ate 3 ounces of salmon or tuna recently. I've done so occasionally in the past with no problem. I routinely eat a small amount of bran with my breakfast cereal, been doing that for at least five years. Bran is vegan, right? Why now?
Again, I'm not convinced that this is gout.

Apparently gout is not quite as easy as ITIWBS claims it is (and I'm not saying that what you have is gout, paulh, it just sounds a lot like gout)
A lot of people (60 percent, if memory serves) have so much uric acid in their blood stream they should suffer from gout, yet relatively few do
Lots of people have warned me not to eat leguminous fruits. Now it seems a lot recommend them
I just don't know - and that's all I know

My toes seem to get sore when I pick up heavy objects that aren't very close to me. That is what happened last Friday. I was collecting rocks for a friend's rock garden. That seems like the most likely explanation. The toe is not the main source of pain, but rather further up on the foot, between the toe-pad and the rest of the foot.

This reminds me of concept of lactose-intolerance.
That should not be an accepted term. The majority of humans are "lactose intolerant". Lactose tolerant should be the term as it describes the aberrant condition. Not only that, humans are unique among mammals for consuming milk beyond the stage of newborns. That we consume the milk of other mammals predominantly is even more bizarre. That we consume the milk of other mammals after it has been aged, fermented, had bacterial and fungal strains added to it...
Cheese is tasty, but it's really weird that we eat it.

I think I've had cellulitis, which was successfully treated with antibiotics. What I have now is not spreading. If anything, it's fading.

Pretty much gone, in fact. No redness any more, and little residual pain.
