Ms Thatcher ran the country down but Ms May should have a chance of doing the same
Leader? Ms May? She changed from remainer to brexiter just to stay in power for Bob's sake. That doesn't make her a leader. That makes her a follower
Split Labour in two parties, I say. They will appeal to a much broader variety of voters. After the election they will both want to govern. Motivation enough to bury the hatches, reach out to each other and form a coalition?

Speaking of Thatcher, it always makes me uncomfortable when I hear people speaking of Thatcher at my local pub.
The bartender is an ex-pat from Weymouth. I'm not sure if he is a Thatcherite, but one fellow ex-pat customer certainly is and it just makes me cringe to hear him say Thatcher was the best thing that ever happened to the UK. Alec, the bartender, will usually seem agreeable to such statements, but I'm not sure if he's being honest or just mindful of his tips.
I stay out of political discussions these days as it's just not fun anymore. I miss the days when we would have lively discussions about all manner of things, including politics, without it devolving into bile and spittle.

The years were not kind to Margaret Thatcher. She became more and more frustrated. She may also have mistaken tolerance and fatigue for support. I've seen analyses that claim people voted for her because thought the alternatives were worse.

So, they were worried the wrong lizard would get in.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
“It comes from a very ancient democracy, you see..."
"You mean, it comes from a world of lizards?"
"No," said Ford, who by this time was a little more rational and coherent than he had been, having finally had the coffee forced down him, "nothing so simple. Nothing anything like so straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford. "It is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them," said Ford. "They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates to the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards?"
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard," said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?"
"What?"
"I said," said Ford, with an increasing air of urgency creeping into his voice, "have you got any gin?"
"I'll look. Tell me about the lizards."
Ford shrugged again.
"Some people say that the lizards are the best thing that ever happenned to them," he said. "They're completely wrong of course, completely and utterly wrong, but someone's got to say it."
"But that's terrible," said Arthur.
"Listen, bud," said Ford, "if I had one Altairian dollar for every time I heard one bit of the Universe look at another bit of the Universe and say 'That's terrible' I wouldn't be sitting here like a lemon looking for a gin.”

I still hate Margaret Thatcher, she distroyed the UK after living through her reign of terror and right wing drivle, I'm glad shes gone! also Margaret Thatcher left the French our one great British legacy, the employment strike, it seems the French have taken on our skill at making a burning brazure out of nothing, the act of subversion at the managers, the making of Tea....... the shouting at the "scab", the flying picket, fighting with the police.............ahhh such memorys and we have given all this to the French

If it's any consolation [doubtful], you have it better than those of us in Trumpland.
Oh, the horror, the horror!

And there's me thinking it's still one of our's.............
I'm starting to think that Trumpalina should stay in the U.S.of A and not bother on a state visit to the good's UK, or just send his soft bog roll over for us to be amazed it

One (1!) good thing has come out of making the Trump prezz of the USofA: Philip will rather resign than meet him

I thought Prince Philip had retired, not resigned.

Maybe they could snub him by inviting him to a state visit, then have him meet Prince Edward.
