I'd love to travel more. So many places I want to go to...

If I may ask, how did your sister find the resources or the means for this "tour"? Or even that "traditional Israeli 'big trip'" that you mentioned? (What-ever it may be ...)

Mainly by working a lot after the army, and saving. She has some savings in the bank too, but I don't know if she used them.
These areas are quite cheap to travel in - that's what makes them so attractive to young backpackers.

Ah. Planning, favourable circumstances, and some measures of good thinking then.

I left my parents home at a bit over 17 years old, and pretty much leapt into the dog-eat-dog world of trying to scrounge out a living. Pretty early, I was in to our own military, which led to my first marriage, my first child, ... And the responsibilities to others just rolled on from there. Oh well, we each have a story, eh?

Yeah. smiley - smiley

Well, now that you have got yourself somewhat better off, maybe you can get some travelling done.
I know that my late grandma took some really great organised trips after she retired - both close by (Jordan) and far away (Kenya, China).

Insufficient incomes or vacation entitlements will pretty much preclude world-travels until our retirement as well. Which is, sadly, a good 15 years away yet.

Mind, we are saving every penny to make our trip to the UK a reality in September. smiley - biggrin

smiley - biggrinOoh, that's lovely!

I _will_ make to a h2g2-meet someday - maybe years from now, but I'm definitely intending to.

I won't manage any Meet, but we are going expressly to visit h2g2 friends. South-eastern England, Wales, Ireland, and perhaps even Scotland. If time allows.

I'm sure that we will. In fact, Friday afternoon, a couple of phone calls (England and Wales) were enough that we have established our itinerary. And placed the call with a travel agent to seek the best options and expenses. Some days will be tiring with so much to see and do. But others are also open for just "us" time, walking a national park, or browsing the core of a small city/town.

And I am trying for a little surprise for milady ... But one that won't be expressed here until it happens. IF (a very big if) it can be accomplished...

smiley - biggrinThat's great.

Nowadays, travel really has been made much easier than in the past. Some places are more expensive to stay in (but having friends always helps, as seems to be the case with you smiley - smiley), but the travel itself is much more accessible.

One thing that I still find peculiar is that, with a bit of timing, ... We can fly round-trip to the UK for less monies than to visit our daughter. Who happens to live in the same country.

*shrug* Yeah, that _is_ weird...

The UK is more expensive than Canada though, I think; so it all evens out in the end.

Yeah, I have been comparing costs of general stuff for a few years now, and know that we need a good pocketful of cash for our travels.

BTW, the count is down to 7 now? Whooo-hooo for you, m'dear. I'll just be getting home from Nova Scotia about then. Do have as fab a time as the family reunion stuff allows?

As I suggested in Nuke's journal ... I hope to see some delightful pics. Of times and places shared. having sorta been there and done that, it is so lovely to see it through fresh eyes. smiley - smiley
