At least you're aware you forget things have consequences . Most people who don't think about consequences fail to grasp the entire concept.

This is a very weird system you have in the UK... I would have been so mad if anyone at university had ever contacted my parents about anything... Actually that's something that would never ever happen here.
I agree though that opening your parents mail wasn't a good idea. But I suppose as long as it doesn't become a habit your parents will overlook your faux pas.
Hope your father will be able to sort things out for you.

They always send your parents stuff without telling you here. My math teacher, while under the misapprehension that I had done something wrong, told me he wouldn't contact my parents and then called my dad at work. Needless to say, he was not pleased.
I think it might be a very good idea to get your dad to help sort it out. Sometimes these things can't be handled by just one person.

Yes, as long as you're younger than 18 they call your parents here too when there's something wrong... but as soon as you're 18 they won't talk to your parents any longer - regardless of if you're still at school, or already at university.

He went and had a "gentle chat" with her and I think it's sorted now. Obviously he won't tell me any of what happened or anything...but still, it's sorted and that was the important thing.
I got my first poetry essay back!!! Apparently it was mature and sophisticated but contained some repetition and needed closer analysis of quotations. It also made assertions without evidence. However, if you get the sense of something from a poem as a whole, you can't really back it up with quotations...or else it would be the entire poem!
This weekend I am finally trotting off to start my geography coursework! Whoo! In fact....train! Argh!

"if you get the sense of something from a poem as a whole, you can't really back it up with quotations...or else it would be the entire poem!" - and that explains why I stick to prose where possible!

Here in the US, parents are still notified of things while you're in secondary school, even once you turn 18 -- there are certain exceptions, like for emancipation. And a good number of private universities make you sign something saying they can contact your parents if you are caught doing drugs, failing classes, or the school is worried about your mental health. They can't do that at most public universities, though.

But when you go in for health care, they ask for emergency contact information. I know my school has a policy where they contact the parents if someone's life is in danger.

One important thing to note is that there are many rules which contradict one another, where healthcare professionals must decide what to do by weighing up the circumstances.

My school doesn't call my parents if I get in trouble (which, I haven't been in trouble.....yet). Course, I'm very much over 18 and my parents live 700 miles away. I highly doubt they could do anything anyway.
Might I ask (yes I am a stupid American) what is a poppadom?
KAT's Falling Apart
AlexAshman Posted Dec 6, 2005
A poppadom is a thin, flat indian bread which is very dry and cracks easily. You can dip it in a curry or in some mango chutney - in American terms it's basically a side order for indian meals.

So, an Indian cracker, sort of.
Thanks.
Hang in there Kats. It could be worse.

I's been a good while since Kat posted. Does anyone have personal contact with her? (e-mail, MSN or something?)

AlexAshman Posted Dec 7, 2005
She's a scout, so all the other scouts will probably know her email, but I don't know who's actually in contact.
Anyone have any idea?
