Awww, thank you, KB.
I think I really lack the confidence for such a business, though.
And Piece: I don't think that would be enoughj, people tend to be very critical when they pay good money for something. They'd tar and feather me for any mistake they would find.

You wouldn't guess that Bel is not a native English speaker by the way she trounces me at Scrabble.
Translation work could be a good idea, but isn't freelance work hard to come by?
I'm sorry I have no worthwhile suggestions- when I've needed work in the past, part time jobs were few and far between, and usually hard work for crappy pay. So I've no idea what would be worthly of our Bel's talents.

Sadly, nobody's interested in your talents (not if they pay well, anyway)(, but just in exams and diploma.
Oh, and you'll wish you hadn't reminded me that it's my turn in scrabble.

Can you see yourself as a multilingual tour guide, either in town or in one of the museums?

I've wondered about that, Mala, and I'm not sure. I'd have to learn incredibly much stuff to start with, then remember it, then present it...

I can appreciate how frustrating it must be looking for work and finding that employers require a degree for even the most seemingly menial jobs. It doesn't make much sense to me. I mean, there exist such things as vocational high schools and such- not all high school is college prep, and not every job warrants higher education, and not all college graduates are intelligent or skilled. Why on earth do part-time and entry-level positions require a college degree, especially when they pay so little. It just seems silly.

bel, as far as i can tell you know your english better than most germans. and i can tell a lot! don't set your standards higher than potential employers do! why would you do that? go out there and get them!
(who knows this is easier said than done (for you), but still wiser than letting others doing worse - and letting them getting away with that - AND the money!)

I wouldn't call translating a "menial job", PC Ok, I do it without a degree, but you can't let just anybody at it. I'm not saying Bel wouldn't be suitable, just that most people aren't!

Well, I must get some editing finished now, it's week this week and I'm running late with my stuff (for the first time, I think).
