Uubbaguubba - Minister of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - Keeper of the Tuber Count Posted Jun 8, 2003
I think all pets and small children have an in built detection device for unpleasant substances . It's one of there purposes in life .
Work...hmmm... where to begin?
It's quite an involved process. At the moment I'm managing the intake dept (not my proper job, but it's only for 2 more wks ), we assess a sample of spuds for size, % defect from each load (20+ tonnes). If ok the load is graded for size, then packed. When packing either people manually pick off defects (green, damage, skin finish) or camera graders are used - very clever machines . It's a lot more labour intensive compared with manufacturing
I keep the specs up to date, maintain the quality system, manage projects looking into quality and efficiency improvements and anything else that needs doing.
It has been known for me to stand on line measuring spuds (were a bit rougher than calipers, use a square hole cut in plastic)...thankfully not too often.
We have our big annual audit in 3 months so I'll be swamped with work up till then.
Are you working at the public school at BC?
Hello
LadyChatterly Posted Jun 8, 2003
this is my second attempt to reply...i hate XP!
you made me laugh with the comment about the plastic Not sure how you audit potatoes either
yes i do...i was working yesterday morning...we teach saturday morning school...but not for much longer
I'm reminded of the old Birds' Eye peas ad where one poor pea couldn't get in because he was too big...it was terrible.
Do you have more than one nick on here?
Hello
Uubbaguubba - Minister of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - Keeper of the Tuber Count Posted Jun 9, 2003
Working on a Saturday morning, that's terrible .
To be avoided as much as possible.
Just simple Uubbaguubba, don't think I could find the time to have more than one presence on the site . Serious addicted as it is....I've been at work less than 20 minutes and felt the need to look!
I don't remember that ad..it sounds very cruel!
I know what you mean about XP, I have it at work, still use 2k at home - seems far more user friendly.
Have you come across any good entries?
I read one yesterday about kisses - first, last, best and worst, it was funny. I'll dig out the number it you'd like?
Must dash. Speak to you soon.
x G
Hello
LadyChatterly Posted Jun 9, 2003
It keeps asking me if I want to report an error and then when I do, it cuts me off grrrrrr We don't have it here but i have it at home.
I only asked because i came across someone else who seemd mildly obsessed by potatoes (At least that's what I found when i checked their personal space)
I'm always interested in anything interesting so send it over. Have you been coming on here long? You seem very much more au fait with it than I am - i feel as though i'm going all round the houses to do the simplest thing.
How did you know about the school? Don't tell me...educated guess
Hello
Uubbaguubba - Minister of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - Keeper of the Tuber Count Posted Jun 9, 2003
Do I come across as being mildly obsessed with potatoes?? Only mildly .
I've been coming to this site for, I think it is, 7 days!
Any ability is purely coincidental, I certainly don't feel au fait when I get myself lost, dazed and confused.
It was a case of simple deduction...near the Pennines, 6th form, remember it from going through on my way to the Lakes.(Plus when I played rugby at school we played there). Obviously I could have been very wrong!
Hello
LadyChatterly Posted Jun 9, 2003
Sorry about that slight madness :o) Did your team win?
I just checked out your space....very impressive
And, you're a newbie too! How did you hear about it then?
Oh and, one more question :o) What's the attraction of potatoes?
Hello
Uubbaguubba - Minister of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - Keeper of the Tuber Count Posted Jun 9, 2003
I did live in Yarm for about 3 years after I left school, but I went to The Grange in Stockton (used to be rugby, rugby, rugby). Did we win...yes....we had a very good teacher (Mr Agar), I think I'm right in saying we lost 4 games in 3 years.
I'm in the process of re-designing my space, not quite sure how I want it to look : A shrine to potatoes(????) or just random nonsense!
I first heard/saw the sight when I was browsing the BBCi site one day at work, I registered, then forgot about it! Remembered about 10 days later, now I can't leave! How about you?
Ah, the attraction of potatoes ,where to begin?
It's because I came to it by way of manufacturing, which is very boring, unchallanging and predictable. When I moved into produce, I originally worked for an organic supplier (they took quite a gamble employing me - no experience in food, etc). It was a revelation, they were 10 years behind in terms of quality structure and they gave me "carte blanche" (sp?). Moved into potatoes after 11 months, but didn't like the culture so left after 6 mths, now work for the best company I ever have. There is so much ....passion (the best word I know to describe it) that everyone always strive to improve every day.
How long have you been a teacher? How long at BC?
Oh....educated guess...lol ....I get there in the end
You can find that entry on A1041625. Can't get the link to work for some reason!
PS Can I add you my list of Friends (you'll be the first)

Yes...you didn't need to ask
I got onto this site by chance. My oldest son sent me an email telling me to watch a tv programme which I missed. I looked on BBCi and found that this was what it'd been about.
Do you surf/chat elsewhere on the Net?
I've been teaching for thirteen years which is how long I've been at the school.
I was widowed young and did my degree after my husband died. I have three grown up children, two of whom are married, the third and youngest is currently in South America, Bolivia to be precise. He and his girlfriend started their round the world trip just after Easter. I received an email from him last night to say they'd been in the jungle...lots and lots of spiders, snakes and ants which can give you a bite which leaves you in pain for 12 hours. Now doesn't that sound like fun?
You said that you were only doing this job for two weeks, what do you usually do? You aren't the 'Terminator' are you? (For those poor rejected little spuds that don't measure up)
Helen

btw
I got the link to work but didn't know which thread to look on and how did you get your name on that list?
Sorry...I sound like a school mistress sometimes

Central America, round the world...very nice - except for the creepy crawlies...I dont mind spiders, as long as there not as bit as a football!
I dont use chat rooms, never really appealed...although i suppose this site is a huge collection of chat rooms in reality!
At present I'm in charge of the Intake dept, we're responsible for incoming quality, told today that the person who was going to take over has pulled out (accepted a job elsewhere), a bit disappointing, but heyho . My proper job is the standards, specs and projects. Had a meeting with my boss today....offered me a promotion and pay rise......rather out of the blue, need to see the details, job more than money.
Geoff

How i got my name on the list...started posting to the 'Addicts' and they asked if I wanted a ministerial title!
You were up late last night, or is that a normal time?
Hello
LadyChatterly Posted Jun 10, 2003

sometimes it's my normal time but in fact i'm rather bleary eyed this morning...about to go in the shower which should wake me up
Good morning to you too btw
I will have to get a move on otherwise I'll be late for work.
I'm checking to see if there are any emails from South America...they usually send a very long one to everyone on their mailing list...should be very interesting this time! I HATE spiders!!!

I have a question.
How are you able to log onto this while you're out there producing the Nation's raw material for chips? Do you have a roving laptop?
And, how did you know I was there this morning?
lol one of those third degree moments

It's become part of my working routine! Start PC, get coffee, log on to hootoo. . I leave the PC logged on all day - dont know if it costs work anymore tho?
I didn't know you were on this morning, I always start e-mails that way, just carried it on!
You can find who's logged on with the 'Who's Online' button at the top of the page! It's ok I'm not a cyber stalker.

I never thought you were...you sound too nice and normal for that. Well, as normal as anyone with such an inordinate interest in root vegetables can be
I haven't quite got the hang of smileys on here...you seem very proficient
Did I tell you I'm going to see Shania Twain in July? I'm trying to learn as many words as I can
Hello
Uubbaguubba - Minister of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - Keeper of the Tuber Count Posted Jun 10, 2003
Too nice and normal thank you very much....there was no need to qualify it though .
Shania Twain - Where at? I saw a special Top of the Pops 2 she did, she was very good . I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
As for the smileys.... I practise diligently for several hours every night!
Hello

Hyde Park. I'm sure I will, although not perhaps for the same reason as you judging by the wink
Diligent eh? Sounds very studious
