Some still do I know, but not the larger shops
and remember when we used to have Sunday Best clothes??
and the old style Grocers shop, that had a chair so you could sit down while he sliced your bacon, or ground your coffee beans?
Ah! dont worry about me, Im just in one of those nalstagic moods

evenig all.those are the times i recall from my childhoodI know ive sai before my mother had a shop, and closed half days wednesdays, and sunday afternoons. We had a bacon slicer, and massive cheeses that she cut with a cheese wire ,they were kept on a round marble tray, and a big, lined flour bin ,as she weighed flour out by the pound. And hand pumps for the beer she sold,in jugs that people brought, usually with a tea towel over the top!!!She used to weigh out sugar as well,in little blue bags!!!What games we used to play, anyone recall tin can squat, whip and tops, hop scotch,...anymore????s to all.x

hi badger
yes i remember sunday best oh god it was awful. my mum bought me this hidious coat complete with inverted pleats top with cloth bows at the top of each one it= was mustard and had a fur collar think of the worst cenario and youve got it . i used to go out the front door of our prefab supposidly to sunday school duck under the window and go into the coal cellar where i had a sloopy joe (tee shirt) and shorts and plimsols on standby take of the worship gear and head for the local burn and canal on my bike stashed at a friends house
got away with this for a few weeks until i arrived back in one suday redress in god clobber and shot in the back door only to be invited into the front room where the lovely miss ramsay sunnday school teacher was sitting - she thought i was ill and had called to see. the rest is history. was a good attender of sunday school after that .complete with THE COAT.

Ah! Yes! Astro, the old Sunday best!! clothes that were new were for Sundays only!
Then after a while they were everyday clothes. Same went for shoes, or sandals.
I can still remember the smell of that grocers shop! lovely smell of coffee and tea, that was served lose from a tea box.
Sawdust on the floor of the buthers shop, all these and many more happy memoeies of days gone by

oooooooh nooooooooo... hate the bloody dentist.... well i did... had all mine taken out years ago and never looked back.....
had probs with 'em all breakin' and gum probs... told the dentist i was phobic and insisted they took the whole lot out.... after an xray he agreed that my teeth were crumbling in my gums so it would be best all round to give me a gummy.....
never have been able to wear me bottom set but hey, no more aches.... ouch....
s to all who are suffering.....

I have not been back to the dentist since 1969 when a R.N. dentist literally knocked my broken tooth out, so he could get back to his wardroom party!!!!!!!!
I broke my tooth in the morning of that day while on the assault course,it was 9 pm before they sent me for treatment??????
Never went back since then
