Did you mean celebrate or celibate? Well, happily it won't be a celibate Christmas this year smiley - winkeye and the only thing I celebrate in January is smiley - magic my birthday smiley - magic

The original plan was that we were going to be in London for my birthday and the meet, but oh well. . .

Back to scrabble . . . the worst of it today was that Noggin only got 12 points for taking my fabulous spot - I would have got something like 85 points!!! And *then* I even made him lunch! smiley - angel

And speaking of food, a friend of mine saw Noggin tonight for the first time since August and said that N was looking much more 'filled out' and healthier than before and that he had much better colour in his cheeks. I have to say that for a little guy Noggin can sure pack it away . . .

Hiya, I've been on holiday to the cotswolds and am drowning in backlog. I have been reading here to see what you are all up to but haven't had a lot of time to comment much, sorry!

You can't complain about Noggin stealing your spot, blocking tactics are all part of the game smiley - smiley

Sad to hear you probably won't make the winter meet now, was looking forward to meeting you. I may not make the summer one depending on proximity to the wedding, but never say never.

My diet went out of the window over my holiday (and the several weeks of diet crisis I had beforehand) so have put on a few pounds smiley - groan which am now working at shifting again *sigh* I have been contacted by the press now to see if I want to do interviews and photoshoots related to the tv thing I did. Am less sure about these as I didn't do the tv thing in pursuit of 'fame' and not sure I want to appear in a national sunday newspaper or women's magazine! They will probably pay me for it though, will have to check how much...

Got to smiley - run now, work has picked up again just in time for christmas, when nobody feels like working...

hi Kelli,

Can too! smiley - winkeye

Yes, I'm also sorry that we can't make it to the meet - we even had a nice place to stay in Kensington. Oh well. But the summer plan makes more sense - hope you will be able to make it to that meet as I was also really looking forward to meeting you.

So, have you found out how much they will pay you for the interview? I've decided to *seriously* start on a diet after my birthday in January - bit silly to start now with Christmas coming up.

Anyhow, yet another long weekend. Both Monday and Wednesday are holidays here and many people are 'bridging' and taking five days off, but I'll be working on Tuesday. Which is a good thing as a lot of my students are away over the Christmas holidays.

The other day they switched on the Christmas lights in the streets and I was quite upset to see that this year, instead of putting up pretty white fairy lights in all the orange trees, they have put up not-so-pretty BLUE ones. *Blue* Christmas lights? smiley - erm Noggin says he quite likes them but, then again, he's colour blind. smiley - tongueout

Well, off to do . . . something or other . . .

"So, have you found out how much they will pay you for the interview? " They called back today and said the photoshoot is next week. I can't make it as I need all my annual leave days now (for wedding dress shopping!) so I never found out how much they might pay.

" I've decided to *seriously* start on a diet after my birthday in January - bit silly to start now with Christmas coming up " Excuses, excuses! It is three weeks (ish) to christmas, you could lose 6 lb by then if you start now, put several back on over the few days of christmas indulgence, and end up no worse off than you are now.... This is my theory anyway, thought I might just give up until the new year but realised that I'd just end up with more to lose in Jan smiley - smiley

Exciting plans for the weekend? Mine include more decorating and work in the garden - need to go and pick a tree to plant in place of the stump I dug up a copuple of weeks ago.

Hi Kelli,

I hope you had a nice holiday. The Cotswolds is/are (?) lovely. We were there last year; we stayed at Broadway and it was beautiful. We're all looking forward to your wedding now so keep us up to date on wedding dresses amd the other arrangements. We want all the details; what you're wearing, the bridesmaids, the flowers, the stationery, the food: everything. Planning a wedding is great fun and I've no idea why anyone would pay someone else to do it. Maybe there's a business idea there?

smiley - cheers

Moi??? smiley - winkeye

To be honest, in spite of my rather indulgent lifestyle (lots of great food, lots of smiley - redwine ) I seem to have stayed the same weight for the past two years or more. I mean, okay, it is WAY MORE than I would like to weigh, but I seem to have found some sort of balance in that I am - at least - not putting on any more weight.

So even if I 'give up' on dieting until January 7th I expect to not have actually put on any extra tonnage. I hope!

When I start to 'diet' it won't be a *diet* per se - it will be more of a lifestyle change that incorporates lighter eating with regular exercise. And a lot less smiley - redwine ! *sigh*

So you can all look forward to a much crankier az as of January 8th! (lucky you!)

Hi Fathom smiley - smiley
The Cotswolds are indeed lovely, even in grey and miserable november. We were staying in an isolated cottage (will pick one a bit closer to the pub next time) near Chipping Campden - I say near but it was a 3 mile walk away! We did tons of walking over the week so got rather muddy, I think we might go back again but earlier in the year. The cottage had an open fire so every evening we watched logs burn and read books rather than watching the telly. We also toasted marshmellows and roasted chestnuts on it and didn't mind that all our clothes smelled of woodsmoke all the time. I'm guessing that the best time would be in September when the days should be sunnier and longer, but still be enough of a chill in the air of an evening to justify lighting the firesmiley - smiley. It was very relaxing, would thoroughly recommend it as a break smiley - ok

Wedding planning for other people must be quite stressful - you'd get the brunt of all those bridezilla moments...

Wedding website design might be popular though, if not too expensive.

Bridezilla? Not with me. Think of me as Franc from the Steve Martin movie 'Father of the Bride'. Like putty in my windows.

Wedding websites? Hmmmm...

I *always* think of him when somebody mentions wedding planners smiley - laugh

Having spent a while hanging around confetti.co.uk I am now fully appreciative of the things that some highly strung brides find to get stressed about - it never ceases to amaze me! I have informed all parties that if I start to get uptight about favours, bridesmaids, distant family, or the correct etiquette for pretty much anything they should give me a slap to snap me out of it smiley - yikes

One girl was worrying about how smart her guests will dress and wondering if she can discourage people from coming if she thinks they may be too scruffy for the photos! Another was banging on about how cross she was that one of her friends had got an outfit that was a similar colour to the bridemaids.

*tries to focus on the important bit, ie having a fun party, er...I mean marrying the man I smiley - love* smiley - zen

Am sure you'll all hear plenty about the planning as it goes along...

Looking forward to it! smiley - ok

Today is gorgeously sunny and warm so this morning Noggin and I went out for brekky and then out shopping for sunglasses for N. He didn't need them all summer but now that the sun is a bit lower in the sky he said he wanted to get some. Typical shopping experience with Noggin - we found the *perfect* sunglasses for him in about five minutes. Last time I went sunglasses hunting it took me *months* to find ones I liked! Well, okay, mine are prescription and cost about five times as much as his so I had to be really sure I liked them, but it's the same with clothes and shoes with him.

Especially shoes. I have the widest feet in the universe with the extra added annoyance of having a very high instep, so almost no shoes ever fit me - and even when I find some that do fit I have to spend about two weeks hobbling around in serious pain while I break them in. Meanwhile, *he* just slips his perfect little feet into almost anything and can then immediately walk around comfortably like he's in his bedroom slippers. smiley - envy

Kelli, your description of the cottage you stayed in sounds lovely. When we went to BoloƱa last month we had the most amazing dinner in a very quaint little restaurant that also had an open fireplace (that was embedded with seashells - sounds but it really suited the 'ambientation'). I'm waiting to get some photos back from that trip (the *almost* trip to Gibraltar) from my friend Lisa who came with us and will post them on that thread.

No, not near here at all - they all took place in northern cities. Just read the BBC News article with the rather sensationalist headline 'Eta bombs four Spanish cities'. It would have been more accurate to say 'Eta sets of bombs in four Spanish cities' I think.
